Work from Home Cardigan - or At the Office!

A big thank you to reader and friend, Jennifer Leclaire, for coming up with the name! Naming crochet patterns can be the hardest part, and her idea was fab! (Although, ironically, most of it was crocheted while traveling!

    Work From Home Cardigan WIP

When designing the Work From Home Cardigan, I wanted to design a lightweight but warm and oversized piece that you could throw on at your desk when things get chilly. The arms are left free for typing and working, and the length won't get caught up in your office chair or tangled up with other garments.

It's also great for cooking, teaching, or as a warm topper for everything from tees to turtlenecks! Here I am modeling it in my backyard!

@mooglyblog Sneak peek! The Work From Home Cardigan crochet pattern is coming to Moogly soon! Size inclusive! ❤️ #OverwatchMe #yarnspo #mooglyblog #andGO #sneakpeek #freecrochetpattern #redheartrollwithitmelange #wfh #wfhlife #crochetdesigner #crochetersoftiktok ♬ Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard - Paul Simon

It's Your Cardi, Go Long If You Want To!

That all said... you can totally easily adjust the length of this one! Add the same number of rows to the back and to each front piece to create a custom length for your Work From Home Cardigan! Went too long and need to remove some rows without frogging the whole thing? Click here for a tutorial for removing the first rows from a crochet piece!

Cute and Cuddly for Kids and Adults

This crochet Ghost pillow is fun to make - and squeeze! It is made with *just* over one skein of Bernat Blanket. I tried to fit it in one but needed just a couple more yards! So if you only have one skein of white, I suggest using another color for the bottom - black would be fun!

    Ghost Squish WIP

Don't get too scary though! I used safety eyes, but this pattern has not been tested for safety for children under 3 years of age. If you are crocheting it for a baby or toddler, you may wish to embroider on the eyes instead and make sure that the pieces are sewn on quite securely. If using it as a photo prop, be sure not to leave the toy with a baby unattended.

    Crochet Abbreviations

    Magic Circle

CSDC - Chainless Starting Double Crochet

    Dc - Double Crochet

    STDC - Standing Double Crochet

    Ch - Chain

    Sl st - Slip Stitch

    Fp - Front Post Stitches

    Tr - Treble Crochet

STHDC - Standing Half Double Crochet

    Flo - Front Loop Only

Working in the side of rows

    Hdc - Half Double Crochet

    NOTES:

Do not work into the top of a stitch that has a post stitch worked in front of it.

All increases happen on one side of the shawl - the other side should be straight/even.

I recommend using stitch markers in the first stitch of each row, and along the increases side as a visual reminder.

This pattern uses two active loops. So be sure to put a stitch marker in the unused active loop to prevent your work from coming undone.

You will not turn after every row - this will be indicated in the pattern.

If you prefer not to use the magic circle, you can ch 2 and work 2 dc in the first ch made.

Or if you prefer to not use the CSDC or STDC, you can ch 3 and count it as your first dc st, or use your preferred dc alternative.

    SPECIAL ABBREVIATION

PULAD: Pull Up Loop And Drop - remove hook from active loop of yarn, and insert stitch marker to secure the loop. Move to the indicated active loop to continue pattern.

    Touchdown with Lily Sugar'n Cream!

When you're out picking up the snacks, be sure to stop by the yarn aisle for some Lily Sugar'n Cream! This yarn is ideal for this project, because it's machine washable and dryable, absorbent, and can stand up to the hottest dishes on your table. (If you do choose to substitute yarns, be sure to avoid acrylics and polyester which can melt!)

    NOTES:

This pattern is made in two sections. First, we make a mesh football shape. Then, we crochet the "wiggles" into that mesh. We add the white stitching and then fill in with the brown wiggles.

Ch 4 in the mesh counts as a dc and ch 1.

The first ch 2 and dc in the mesh counts as a dc2tog (Rows 11 - 13). Work into the top of the dc as the final st in the next row.

When making the Wiggles, work ONLY around the mesh dc sts and inner halves/posts of the dc2togs. Do not work into the ch-1 sps or into the edging. Only work around the dc sts that do NOT have edging sts worked around or into them.

Always add laces and wiggle sts from the RS of the football mesh.

When you work 5 dc sts "up" the post of one st (from base to top), then you will work the next "down" the st (from top to base) - these alternate creating a wave across the row.

What about the White Stripes? I went NFL style, but if you like the white stripes, just switch to Color B (white) for the Fill In Wiggles on Rows 4 and 14.

Lakeside Tee - free crochet pattern on Moogly

    Simple Rectangles Seamed Right!

To make the Lakeside Tee, you only have to know how to work in rows - there's no shaping here! Two simple rectangles become a top when they are seamed just right. All you have to do is leave room for the head and arms. This pattern is designed with about 2-4" of positive ease in the bust, so it's great alone or as a layering piece. To make it longer, just add more rows - just make sure to add the same to both pieces!

Lakeside Tee - free crochet pattern on Moogly

    Designed with Bernat Softee Cotton

Bernat Softee Cotton is one of my favorite yarns! The cotton acrylic blend creates a soft texture that feels amazing to wear in any weather. It's machine washable, so it's easy to care for - and you can wear the Lakeside Tee as often as you like. The finished top is perfect with jeans, but dresses up for work just as well - and might just inspire a trip to the shore!

Carrying Yarn Along the Side of a Project

    Mattress Stitch Seaming

    NOTES:

This pattern is made in two identical pieces that are then seamed.

Be sure to follow the instructions for the size you are making. The sizes are written as XS(S, M, L, XL, 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X). In sections that do not include particular sizes, those numbers are replaced with an "X".

If you would prefer not to use FDC for the first row, you can use standard dc sts - just make the number required for your size.

If you are using two colors you can carry your yarn along the side. Should you wish to use 3 colors, you will need to change color every row to float it along the side. For more colors, use your best judgment - cutting the yarn may be the best option.

To determine your best size, measure your bust at the largest point. Double the width shown in the schematic below to see how big around the tee will be, and choose your size.

An Adaptation of My Old Sewing Pattern!

Way back in the day, long long ago, before I started Moogly... I would do a lot of bartering and trading for handmade gifts with other crafty moms. And one of the things I would make to trade was a hand-sewn baby doll! It featured a flat, flannel, blanket body, with a simple head and sleeping cap, knotted at each corner.

Now, I've decided to translate that sewing pattern into crochet! The crochet version is bigger, squishier, and features additional texture from a super satisfying stitch pattern. The knotted corners keep busy fingers entertained, and you can add any expression to the face, or leave it blank so their imagination can soar.

Sleepy Time Blanket Baby - Moogly

Designed with Littles in Mind - and Bernat Blanket!

Bernat Blanket and Bernat Blanket O'Go are super squishy - and so great for kids' projects! Easy care, washable - and it works up quick! You can pick your favorite 2 to 3 colors of Bernat Blanket, or grab an O'Go for a pre-picked trio! If you do go with the O'Go, you'll use *all* of the Body color, so don't leave your tails too long, and use the hat/trim color if you run out at the end.

Cute and Cuddly for Kids and Adults

This crochet baby doll is fun to make - and features stimulating texture for your little one's senses! However, this pattern has not been tested for safety for children under 3 years of age. If you are crocheting it for a baby or toddler, make sure that the hat is sewn on quite securely. Be sure not to leave blankets or toys with unattended infants.
