    The Importance of Being Cotton

When it comes to kitchen items, I'm a big fan of using Lily Sugar'n Cream. It's readily available in tons of great colors, but more importantly, it's 100% cotton. This is super important when you intend to use your crochet item with hot things.

And a trivet is certainly something that needs to be able to stand up to prolonged contact with high heat! Acrylic and plastic-based yarns may melt, and wool may felt if it gets washed. Since trivets are used with food, they need to be easy care... so this yarn is perfect!

Bauble Ornament Wiggle Trivet - WIP

Fun Reusable Seasonal Decor - and a Hosting Gift!

The Bauble Wiggle Trivet is made in three sections, that work up super quickly! First, you make the base mesh, and then you add the "wiggles" - post stitches that add thickness and texture. Finally, the topper/hanger is added - making it really look like an ornament, and including a handy loop to hang it up as decor when not in use!

    Post Stitches

    Seamless join

    BLO - Back Loop Only

    NOTES:

This pattern is made in three sections. First, we make a mesh circle. Then, we crochet the "wiggles" into that mesh. We add the white star/snowflake and then fill in with the blue wiggles. Finally, we add the yellow hanger - go with gray if you prefer a silver look!

Ch 4 in the mesh counts as a dc and ch 1.

When making the Wiggles, work ONLY around the mesh dc sts, as for post stitches. Do not work into the ch-1 sps or into the edging.

Always add wiggle sts from the RS of the football mesh.

When you work 3 dc sts "up" the post of one st (from base to top), then you will work the next "down" the st (from top to base) - these alternate creating a wave across the row.

Prefer a different star/snowflake design? Feel free to get creative with how you fill in the circle!

    Countdown Crochet "Paper" Chain

Countdown Crochet "Paper" Chain - Free Pattern on Moogly

Paper chains are used for all sorts of events... and send a lot of paper to the trash! Instead, make the interactive Countdown Crochet "Paper" Chain! Get the crochet pattern right here on Moogly!

    Go Green with Crochet "Paper"!

Paper chains were a staple of my childhood. We used them to countdown to holidays, decorate for birthdays, and for all sorts of school projects. We went through a *lot* of construction paper. So I decided to come up with the Countdown Crochet "Paper" Chain!

Countdown Crochet "Paper" Chain - Free Pattern on Moogly

Reusable year after year, the Countdown Crochet Paper Chain can be made in any color, for any occasion or decor. The oversized links are bold and modern - I'd love to see a set in all neutrals for a boho look!

These links also make a great counting toy for preschoolers working on their numbers and manual dexterity! Make them in a rainbow for a double dose of learning, or use them as a candy-free advent calendar. It's decor and a learning tool all in one. You might get looped into making a set for your kids' classroom!

Countdown Crochet "Paper" Chain - Free Pattern on Moogly

Add Numbers, Letters, or Mix Up the Stitch Pattern!

In this small sample set of Countdown crochet Paper Chains, I used the Moogly Crochet Numbers as appliques. But of course, you can also write out a message, or do the entire Moogly Crochet Alphabet! The ideas are endless - you can even have kids pair uppercase and lowercase by mixing in the Moogly Lowercase Crochet Alphabet.

And if you need even more options, there's the Moogly Currency Set and Moogly Greek Alphabet!

Countdown Crochet "Paper" Chain - Free Pattern on Moogly

In addition to making this project kid-friendly, I wanted to make this pattern beginner-friendly! So I used just single crochets and chains. Each link whips up in a half hour or less, especially once you've got it memorized. But if you want to add texture to the equation, here is the formula I landed on: Make sure that the link is 3 times longer than it is wide, plus however much you want the ends to overlap. With that, you can get creative with the pattern and yarn!

For the Crochet Numbers - or Other Appliques!

To fit the links as made with Bernat Blanket, use Bernat Softee Cotton and a 3.75mm hook when using any of these patterns.

    • Moogly Crochet Numbers
    • Moogly Crochet Alphabet
    • Moogly Lowercase Crochet Alphabet.
    • Moogly Currency Set
    • Moogly Greek Alphabet

PAPER CHAIN INSTRUCTIONS (Using Bernat Blanket and 8mm crochet hook)

Row 1: Ch 9, skip the ch closest to the hook, sc in each rem ch across; turn. (8 sc)

Rows 2 - 25: Ch 1, sc in each st across; turn.

Row 26 [RS]: Ch 1, sc in first 2 sts, ch 3 (or as needed to get around your choice of buttons), sc in next 4 sts, ch 3 (or as needed), sc in last 2 sts; break yarn and weave in ends.

Assembly: Sew buttons to RS of Row 1, spaced to match up with the ch loops on the other end.

Countdown Crochet "Paper" Chain - Free Pattern on Moogly

    Add Appliques (optional):

Block the appliques WS up. When they are dry, use spray starch (optional) to add a bit of stiffness and hold the blocking. Let dry before adding to the links.

Then, use Bernat Softee Cotton to sew appliques to the RS of the links as desired, or use craft glue to glue them on. (Sewing will be more secure for long-term use.)

    Fluffy Diamond Pillow

    Fluffy Diamond Pillow - Moogly

The Fluffy Diamond Pillow is a super plush crochet cushion! With Bernat Blanket as the base and Bernat Sheepy coming in with the texture, you'll love to make and hug this stunning crochet pattern on Moogly!

    It's So Fluffy!

These days decor seems to be all about texture, and that's what inspired the Fluffy Diamond Pillow! I used a few different things to pump up the fluff. Bernat Blanket and Sheepy both pull their weight here, but I think the pillow form is also key!

And it's not about getting a pricey pillow, or what it's filled with. That's up to you - everyone has their preferences for down, polyester, foam, etc. But when I make this sort of pillow, I try to always purchase a pillow form that is one size bigger than the crochet outer (this one is smaller inside than out too). This creates max squish! But if you prefer a thinner pillow, you may prefer a 16" pillow form instead.

    Fluffy Diamond Pillow - closeup

Because it's made with big thick yarns, this pillow works up super fast. Great for last-minute prep for that holiday party, or to give as a gift!

    @mooglyblog the world's most amazing crochet pillow pattern ever is up on my site. #fluffydiamondpillow 😍 #crochetersoftiktok #moogly #mooglyblog #bernatblanket #bernatsheepy #yarnspo #freecrochetpattern #crochettok #homedecor #throwpillows #diy #fyp #farmhouse #boho #fluffydiamondpillow #modern #fluffypillow #itssofluffy @yarnspirations ♬ golden hour - JVKE

    Create Your Perfect Combo

I went with a tone-on-tone look for my Fluffy Diamond Pillow, but you can mix and match to your heart's content! I think the pink Sheepy would look so sweet in this design!

Fluffy Diamond Pillow - WIP 1

And you can play with the "fluffiness" too! I added Bernat Sheepy to every post stitch on my pillow, but you could choose to go only with one diagonal, or even highlight squares! Or what about one big fuzzy diamond in the middle? It's up to you!

    Mobius Shawl, Cowl, or Hood!

One of the fun things about a mobius is the variety of ways you can wear it! Throw it around your neck when you head out the door, and pull it down over the shoulders when it gets extra chilly.

    Golden Halo Mobius - Moogly

Then pull it up in a hood for the really nasty weather!

I had to wait a few days to be able to get some pictures, but here you can see some of my favorite ways to wear the Golden Halo Mobius!

    @mooglyblog it's getting chilly out there! 🥶 The Golden Halo.Mobius is sure to keep you cozy 🔥 - just one skein of Caron Colorama Halo O'Go needed! 😇 Now free on Mooglyblog! ❤️ #yarnspo #mooglyblog #ogo #oneskein #golden #crochet #mobius #freecrochet #crochettok ♬ Cold Weather - The Upsetters

    One Halo = One Mobius

I used exactly one skein of Caron Colorama Halo to make the Golden Halo Mobius. And I was obviously inspired by the color when coming up with the name! This yarn was lovely to work with.

    Golden Halo Mobius - WIP

It has a fantastic "halo" of fuzziness that adds interest and texture. But I didn't find it any harder to frog than a smooth yarn! I definitely recommend picking some up and giving it a try!
