Afifa Knits: Designer Showcase on Moogly

A Bit About the Designer

I was so lucky to get to meet Afifa when I taught at Jimmy Beans Wool! She was there teaching knitting (of course) and while I didn't get to take her classes, I saw just how much fun her students were having! Here's a bit more about her in her own words:

"I was born in Pakistan and educated in Asia, Europe, and the United States, and currently live in the Bay Area of Northern California. I love the sunny California weather, and have lived in 5 different countries. My work is influenced by all of these cultures and experiences, and I am passionate about bringing together elements of classic design from a variety of sources to create things that are new and original. I try to bring a modern sensibility and a love of construction to the art of knitting. Since 2015, I have published a full wardrobe of garments: fingerless mittens, cowls, hats, scarves, shawls, sweaters, and more. I also conduct knitting workshops seasonally, regularly contribute promotional designs to some of my favorite local yarn shops in California, and have collaborated with many yarn dyers across the US.

I started knitting after my second child was born, and found myself mainly using patterns as suggestions rather than directions, which quickly motivated me to start creating my own designs. I have a degree in Developmental Psychology and worked in Human Resources for many years, but am now focusing on my career in the fiber world, where I love having the opportunity to play with beautiful yarns as part of my artistic profession."
