    Cottage Bucket Bag

March 4, 2022 by Tamara Kelly 2 Comments

Cottage Bucket Bag - Free One Skein Crochet Pattern on Moogly

The Cottage Bucket Bag is a minimalist style crossbody with maximalist texture! Featuring a simple leather drawstring and Bernat Sheepy yarn, pair it with an adjustable strap for a perfect fit every time. You'll want to grab this beautiful bag every day - and you can snag the free one-skein crochet pattern here on Moogly!

    Soft But Structured

I wasn't sure how Bernat Sheepy would "stand up" as a bag - and I was pleasantly surprised. You can see how well this bucket sits flat, and how it stands up nice and straight! Bernat Sheepy is soft, but it creates a strong solid fabric.

Cottage Bucket Bag - Free One Skein Crochet Pattern on Moogly

I haven't lined this bag (yet) as I wanted to be able to show the construction in the videos and photos. But I do intend to line it, and I suggest you do too! The crocheted fabric is firm and solid, but lining the bag will keep it from stretching out and keep the smallest items from escaping.

    Add Your Own Touches

I've linked to the drawstring and handle I used in the pattern below, but of course, you can use whatever style you like! Crochet a drawstring and handles, switch up the style and colors - use a different color of Sheepy or even add some stripes! I can't wait to see how your Cottage Bucket Bag turns out!

    Lamb Squish

February 25, 2022 by Tamara Kelly 11 Comments

Lamb Squish - free crochet pattern on Moogly

The Lamb Squish is a sheepy, wooly, and very squishy, free crochet pattern on Moogly! Perfect for spring, Easter, or any lamb, sheep, or farm lover - you'll love just how fast it is to make with Bernat yarns!

Disclaimer: This post includes affiliate links; materials provided by Yarnspirations.

Prefer an ad-free PDF? You've got options!

Prefer the free blog version? Keep scrolling!

Don't Try to Resist the Squish!

Just like all the Squishes on Moogly, you can fill the Lamb Squish with a microbead pillow ball, or you can use Fiberfill.

Lamb Squish - three quarter shot

And the yarn has a lot to do with the squishiness for this one too! I've used Bernat Sheepy for the gorgeous look and feel of the body, and then the details are made with a skein of Bernat Blanket O'Go - just one has all the extra colors needed! I did use all of the Bernat Sheepy though, so you may need two skeins of that one - let me know how much you used below!

    Lamb Squish - yarns used

In addition to the yarn and stuffing, you can use safety eyes and sew on the nose as shown, or you can use buttons - or a safety nose, or whatever you like! Make your lamb your own!

    Lamb Squish - from above

Cute and Cuddly for Kids and Adults

This lamb pillow is fun to make - and pet and squeeze! I used safety eyes, but this pattern has not been tested for safety for children under 3 years of age. If you are crocheting it for a baby or toddler, you may wish to embroider on the face and make sure that the ears are sewn on quite securely. If using it as a photo prop, be sure not to leave the toy with a baby unattended.

    Heart Filled Square

February 3, 2022 by Tamara Kelly 11 Comments

Heart Filled Square - Free Crochet pattern on Moogly

The Heart Filled Square is a reader request! I took everyone's favorite Heart Shaped Cloth, and turned it into a 12" square block, perfect for blankets and stitch-alongs - like the MooglyCAL! Share the love and enjoy the stitching with this free crochet pattern on Moogly!

Disclaimer: Materials for this pattern were provided by Yarnspirations; this post includes affiliate links.

    Featuring Red Heart With Love!

To make the original Heart Shaped Cloth, I used cotton - perfect for dishcloths, washcloths, and coasters. For the Heart Filled Square, I switched to Red Heart With Love! This yarn is my favorite yarn for colorwork blankets, and has been the featured yarn in the Moogly Crochet Along for several years now.

    Red Heart With Love

Red Heart With Love comes in lots of colors, is easy to find, and is easy to care for! It's a medium weight yarn, which is very popular for blankets. If you substitute with a DK weight yarn, your square will be about 10" instead of 12"

It All Comes From the Heart

I was so glad when everyone fell in love with the Heart Shaped Cloth - it's such a fun use of the granny stitch! So turning this shape into a square was a request I got several times. And of course, I had to keep the granny theme going. To add some texture, I also added an outline of surface single crochet to the heart, so it really pops!

    Heart Filled Square - WIP

And it was all just perfect timing, as the Heart Filled Square is now part of the MooglyCAL2022! Be sure to check out how I did my crochet along colors for a very different look!

    Aspen Valley Cowl

Aspen Valley Cowl - free one skein crochet pattern on Moogly

The Aspen Valley Cowl is a soft and cozy one skein bandana-style cowl with a turtleneck and clever construction! Stay warm and enjoy the stitching with this free crochet pattern on Moogly!

Featuring Red Heart Super Saver Brushed!

To make the Aspen Valley Cowl, I used some Red Heart Super Saver Brushed! Only one skein is needed, and it's lovely stuff. Most crocheters are familiar with Red Heart Super Saver, but the Brushed version is a surprise and a delight!

    Aspen Valley Cowl - WIP

Red Heart Super Saver Brushed features a gentle halo and it creates soft and fuzzy fabric. While it's still easy-care acrylic, you would never guess to feel and look at it that it's Super Saver! This Misty Blue color reminds me of trips to the mountains - and the chilly temps that would've been better with this cowl.

    Red Heart Super Saver Brushed

Crocheted from the Bottom Up... in a Unique Way!

The construction method for the Aspen Valley Cowl came to me in a flash of inspiration - but I had no idea if it would really work. I had to try it out, or exactly how the fabric would behave.

    Aspen Valley Cowl - construction

Lucky for me... it did work! (Though there were a few moments of self-doubt to be sure.) The result is quite simple, but I think it's sort of clever. The Aspen Valley Cowl is a proof of concept - and is inspiring me to try a few other variations!

Aspen Valley Cowl - finished with yarn

For instance, a self-striping yarn in this pattern would be fascinating. And while I was testing the idea I stuck to simple double crochet, adding a fun stitch pattern would add even more interest.

I do love this simple result... and I reserve the right to revisit the idea later with some updates! And as it is, it's a fun project for adventurous beginners, with fun twists for experienced stitchers.

This pattern features turned rounds in Rnds 1 - 14, and then is worked in a spiral without joins. Use stitch markers in the first and last stitch of each round to help you keep track. To count your Rnd 1-14 stitches, count before making the sl sts that finish the round.

If you would prefer to avoid using the FDC stitch, you can instead ch 92, skip the 2 chs closest to the hook, and dc in each rem ch across. Continue the pattern as written from there.
