NatCroMo Susan Bates Ergonomic Hook Set Giveaway

Published: Mar 7, 2022 by Tamara Kelly · 152 Comments

Happy NatCroMo - that's National Crochet Month! This month I'm partnering with Yarnspirations to giveaway an entire set of Susan Bates Soft Ergonomic Crochet Hooks - take a closer look and enter to win below!

NatCroMo Susan Bates Ergonomic Hook Set GiveawayDisclaimer: This post was sponsored by Yarnspirations and includes affiliate links; all opinions are my own.

    The Hook Specs:

Susan Bates Silvalume Soft Ergonomic Crochet Hooks are an improvement on the aluminum Susan Bates hooks you know and love – they've added an ergonomic sleeve that covers everything below the thumb rest!

Susan Bates Soft Ergonomic Hooks - all the sizes

Like all Susan Bates, these are in-line hooks, suited for both knife and pencil grips. The size is printed on both the thumb rest and the soft ergonomic handle – and of course, they have the Susan Bates color coding. They are available in sizes US-E, 3.5mm to US-K, 6.5mm - all the sizes you probably use most!

Susan Bates Soft Ergonomic Hook - full hook closeup

    My Experience:

I tend to switch between the Soft Ergonomic Hooks, and the Bamboo Hooks - I love them both! I find I like these better for smaller sizes, and the bamboo better for larger sizes - and both let me crochet in comfort.

Susan Bates Soft Ergonomic Hook - pencil hold

These hooks feel warm in the hand, and while the ergonomic sleeve isn't exactly "squishy", it does provide a good feeling of padding and makes the hook more comfortable to use.

My favorite hook size is either J or H, depending on project. Until finding Moogly during the height of the Pandemic, I preferred size G, probably because that was all that I had when I learned to crochet at age 10. Fifty years later, I am more amenable to change. Thank you for such a fun Blog Site and all of your helpful tips and videos, as well as the CALs.

Susan Bates are my favorite hooks of all. The pointy tips and in-line styled hook seem to help me move under and through my stitches faster and easier. I'd love to try out the ergonomic handles, to see how they feel.

I can't say that I have a favorite size, because I work with all kinds of yarn. That said, I think I probably use the blue size H8/5.00mm the most, because I'm always misplacing it!

I am usually making an afghan as a gift, so it is either a G or an H hook. I have used Susan Bates hooks for years
and I did have a full set at one time. Little by little over the years, I have lost a few and had to replace some.

      Hello All,
I love the Susan Bates Hooks because they are the only ones where the neck is the same width as the hook itself, and this is what keeps your stitches nice and even. I taught my niece to crochet left handed even though I am right handed, and told her to only buy the Susan Bates hooks. I get a lot of compliments on my crocheting. Before I learned about the type hook you should use, I was wondering why my crocheting efforts were not as good as a friend of mine. Then I switched to Susan Bates hooks and boy, did I see a big difference!

Taught myself how to crochet at age 13 with a steel set. Fast forward to now where my brittle bones took a toll and I am wheelchair confined at age 60 and I took out the steel hooks and ummm no I cannot work with them now.
I have broken hands so many times and need something easier to grasp and softer on m hands.
