    Bright Chevron Borderless Blanket

July 3, 2020 by Tamara Kelly 4 Comments

Bright Chevron Borderless Blanket - scrunched

The Bright Chevron Borderless Blanket features a very modern and graphic look - and the pattern includes all the sizes! Make this blankie, lapghan, throw, or afghan with the free crochet pattern on Moogly!

    A Graphic Crochet Chevron Blanket!

The Bright Chevron Borderless Blanket features one of my favorite wavy crochet stitches! It is a slow crochet to be sure - this baby sized blanket took me several evenings to finish. But it was worth it!

And I love how it looks without a border - so clean and modern! And when it's done... it's done! That said, it's also ready for you to add whatever border you like - feel free to make it your own!

Bright Chevron Borderless Blanket - laid flat

    A Heat Wave!

The Bright Chevron Borderless Blanket has a secret that makes it extra cozy - the yarn! It's Red Heart Heat Wave - and it heats up an extra 12 degrees Fahrenheit when exposed to UV rays. That makes this blanket perfect for throwing over baby's carrier in the winter for the trip to the car, as a lapghan for fall and spring outdoor activities and sports, and extra cozy as a base for end of season picnics.

Indoors, it's still a super warm and cozy throw of course! Great for chilly offices, those relatives who are always cold no matter what the weather, and as a gorgeous blanket anywhere in the home. (The lapghan size is perfect for wheelchair users too!)

This yarn has been discontinued. Please see below for suggested substitutions, or use your favorite medium weight yarn!

Bright Chevron Borderless Blanket - messy fold

    Make it in Any Size!

I love being size-inclusive - and this extends to blankets! Whether you want to make a baby blanket, a lapghan, or a giant California King, you'll find info for making the Bright Chevron Borderless Blanket in every size below! And if there's a custom size you're interested in, I've included the stitch multiple as well.

Please do be sure to read through all the info before you begin so you're ready to make the size that's right for you!

Bright Chevron Borderless Blanket Sizing Chart

To determine how much yarn to purchase of each color, divide the total yards in half - this is the total number of yards for Color A. Divide the other half by 4 to determine the number of yards for Colors B through E.

To determine how many balls or skeins this is, divide the yardage per color by the number of yards per skein in your choice of yarn.

To create your own custom size, ch a mult of 4, and work to the desired length making sure that each section ends on a CB-CE Row 6 rep, and then finishing with the Last Row.

    NOTES:

This stitch pattern uses 2 active loops, one for each color of yarn. Use a stitch marker to secure the loop you are not currently using so the previous row does not come undone – this is abbreviated as “pm” in the pattern.

If preferred, substitute a ch 3 for the CSDC, but the CSDC will give you a better-looking edge.

    INSTRUCTIONS:

    First Section:

With Color A, ch as directed on Sizing Chart above for your size.

Row 1: Skip the ch closest to the hook, sc in the next 3 chs, *ch 1, skip next ch, sc in next 3 chs; rep from * to end, turn.

    Super Easy Construction

The Easy Striped Summer Tee is a great summer make - so easy you can crochet it at the beach or by the pool! Two rectangles, made of the most basic stitches, get seamed into a flattering v-neck top. The linked treble stitches at the waist give it a rolled look - but there's a substitute for that in the notes below if you want to keep it easy!

    Featuring Patons Grace

I used Patons Grace to make the Easy Striped Summer Tee - it's just so lovely for summer garments! Made of mercerized cotton, it's breathable and soft and has a lovely sheen and drape. And it's available both online and at most big box craft stores!

    Notes

If you would prefer not to use the FSC stitch, you can instead ch 128 (138, 148), skip the ch closest to the hook, and sc in each rem ch across.

And if you would prefer not to use the CSDC stitch, you can instead ch 3 or use your preferred dc substitute.

If you would prefer not to use the linked tr st, you can substitute 3 rnds of back loop only single crochet.

To make this top longer, add an equal number of stitches to the beginning and end of each row. There is no stitch multiple here to worry about, just be sure to move the beginning of the mesh section by the same number of stitches.

    Instructions

    Piece #1:

    Row 1: With CA, FSC 127 (137, 147); turn. (127 (137, 147) sts)

Row 2: CSDC in first st, dc in next 39 (40, 45) sts, [ch 3, skip 3 sts, dc in next 3 sts] 9 (10, 10) times, dc in last 33 (36, 41) sts finishing last st with CB; turn. (127 (137, 147) sts including chs)

Row 5 - 21 (25, 33): Rep Rows 3 and 4, cycling through colors. Do NOT finish last st with new color at end of last row.

Row 22 (26, 34): Ch 1, sc in each st and ch across; break yarn.

    Piece #2:

Rep as for Piece #1, but begin with next color in cycle  - CC (CA, CC).

    Sew Center Seams

Laying out the pieces per the schematic above, seam the front 7 (8, 9)" from the waist using the mattress stitch.

Then, seam the back 15 (16, 17) inches from the waist using the mattress stitch.

    Sew Side Seams

Fold the garment in half across the mesh sections, as shown in the schematic above. Seam each side 11 (12, 13)" from the waist using the mattress stitch.

    Waistband:

Rnd 1: Join to side seam with Color B (or desired color), ch 1, sc 130 (156, 208) evenly around waist opening; join. (130 (156, 208) sts)

    Bobbles Galore!

It's been a while since I made a bobble project - it's how Moogly got its start, really! And now bobbles are trending again, and it was a real joy to revisit this stitch - and figure out how to work it in the round!

    Rainbow Bobble Bag - closeup

    Patons Hempster

These bobbles are really shown off beautifully with Patons Hempster! This yarn is a hemp and cotton blend, and the colors are gorgeous. And the stitch definition is incredible! It does stretch a little bit, so I've kept the handles short to account for that. And you can line it if desired too!

    A Crochet Bolster Pillow

The Squid Squish is filled with a microbead bolster pillow. It's just the perfect size, and so very huggable! And once again I've used Bernat Blanket, so it's a quick project to make, taking just an evening or two. Of course, if you prefer, you can fill it with Fiberfill.

Squid Squish - free pattern on Moogly!

    Add Your Own Details

I've used 24mm Safety Eyes on the Squid Squish, but you can use buttons or crocheted eyes if you prefer. And I've used a grab bag of buttons for the Tentacle and Arm Suckers - I love the random sizes and how they give the Squid a more whimsical look!

Squid Squish - free crochet pattern!

A Note on Toys for Kids

The Squid Squish itself is far too big for babies to choke on, but if you use buttons for the eyes and suckers, they may not be. This pattern has not been tested for safety for children under 3 years of age. If you are crocheting it for a baby or toddler, please embroider on the face rather than using buttons. If using it as a photo prop, be sure not to leave the toy with a baby unattended.
