Framed Herringbone Square
by My Hobby Is Crochet
Above is the original, made in 3 colors of With Love. Below is my version, made in my 4 colors of With Love!
My Notes: This block is another one that starts with rows – in a new way! Turned on their side, these clever cross stitch rows create a gorgeous texture. You decide which way it points in your own finished afghan! I really enjoyed learning this stitch pattern – it’s stunning!
Do be sure to read through ALL the notes and blog post before beginning. Lots of important info!
I also recommend that you put a stitch marker in the 4th ch from the hook before making the very first dc st in Row 1. You need to make the next st in that chain, and it’s a whole lot easier to find that way.
Sizing: My square was coming out a bit big. So I stopped after Rnd 3 of the border, and that got me right to 12″.
But remember, everyone’s gauge and tension level are different so be sure to measure as you go. Learn how to adjust for size HERE to make sure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.
Rows 1 – 2: Lilac
