A Graphic Crochet Chevron Blanket!
The Bright Chevron Borderless Blanket features one of my favorite wavy crochet stitches! It is a slow crochet to be sure - this baby sized blanket took me several evenings to finish. But it was worth it!
And I love how it looks without a border - so clean and modern! And when it's done... it's done! That said, it's also ready for you to add whatever border you like - feel free to make it your own!
A Heat Wave!
The Bright Chevron Borderless Blanket has a secret that makes it extra cozy - the yarn! It's Red Heart Heat Wave - and it heats up an extra 12 degrees Fahrenheit when exposed to UV rays. That makes this blanket perfect for throwing over baby's carrier in the winter for the trip to the car, as a lapghan for fall and spring outdoor activities and sports, and extra cozy as a base for end of season picnics.
Indoors, it's still a super warm and cozy throw of course! Great for chilly offices, those relatives who are always cold no matter what the weather, and as a gorgeous blanket anywhere in the home. (The lapghan size is perfect for wheelchair users too!)
If you haven't used Heat Wave before, the feel and thickness are very similar to Red Heart With Love. So if you'd prefer, With Love makes a perfect substitute!
Make it in Any Size!
I love being size-inclusive - and this extends to blankets! Whether you want to make a baby blanket, a lapghan, or a giant California King, you'll find info for making the Bright Chevron Borderless Blanket in every size below! And if there's a custom size you're interested in, I've included the stitch multiple as well.
Please do be sure to read through all the info before you begin so you're ready to make the size that's right for you!

Bright Chevron Borderless Blanket Sizing Chart
To determine how much yarn to purchase of each color, divide the total yards in half - this is the total number of yards for Color A. Divide the other half by 4 to determine the number of yards for Colors B through E.
To determine how many balls or skeins this is, divide the yardage per color by the number of yards per skein in your choice of yarn.
To create your own custom size, ch a mult of 4, and work to the desired length making sure that each section ends on a CB-CE Row 6 rep, and then finishing with the Last Row.
NOTES:
This stitch pattern uses 2 active loops, one for each color of yarn. Use a stitch marker to secure the loop you are not currently using so the previous row does not come undone – this is abbreviated as “pm” in the pattern.
If preferred, substitute a ch 3 for the CSDC, but the CSDC will give you a better-looking edge.
INSTRUCTIONS:
First Section:
With Color A, ch as directed on Sizing Chart above for your size.
Row 1: Skip the ch closest to the hook, sc in the next 3 chs, *ch 1, skip next ch, sc in next 3 chs; rep from * to end, turn.
Row 2: CSDC in 1st st, dc in each remaining st across; turn and remove hook from loop (pm).
Row 3: With Color B, join with sc to 1st st, working in front of previous row, tr in 1st skipped ch of Row 1, skip next st, sc in next st, ch 1, skip next st, sc in next st, *tr2tog in previous skipped ch of Row 1 and next skipped ch of Row 1, skip next st, sc in next st, ch 1, skip next st, sc in next st; repeat from * until 2 sts remain, tr in last skipped ch of Row 1, sc in last st; turn.
Row 4: CSDC in 1st st, dc in each remaining st across; turn and remove hook from loop (pm).
Row 5: Insert hook in loop of Color A, ch 3, sc in 1st st of previous row, working in front of previous row, tr in 1st skipped st of the row below the previous row, skip next st, sc in next st, ch 1, skip next st, sc in next st, *tr2tog in previous skipped st of the row below and next skipped st of the row below, skip next st, sc in next st, ch 1, skip next st, sc in next st; repeat from * until 2 sts remain, tr in last skipped st of the row below, sc in last st; turn.
Row 6: CSDC in 1st st, dc in each remaining st across; turn and remove hook from loop (pm).
Repeat Rows 5 and 6, alternating between Color A and Color B, until this section totals the number of rows displayed in the "Rows per color pair" Column in Size Chart Above. Ch 3 with Color B, and then fasten off Color B.
Second Section:
Then, repeat Rows 5 and 6 with Color A.
Repeat Row 3 with Color C.
Repeat Row 6, then Rows 5 and 6, alternating between Color A and Color C, until this section totals the number of rows displayed in the "Rows per color pair" Column in Size Chart Above. Ch 3 with Color C, and then fasten off Color C.
Third Section:

Repeat Row 3 with Color E.
Repeat Row 6, then Rows 5 and 6, alternating between Color A and Color E, until this section totals the number of rows displayed in the Rows/B-E Column in Size Chart Above. The entire blanket should give you the total number of rows shown in the Rows Column in the Size Chart above.
Last Row: Insert hook in loop of Color A, ch 3, sc in 1st st of previous row, working in front of previous row, tr in 1st skipped st of the row below the previous row, skip next st, sc in next 3 sts, *tr2tog in previous skipped st of the row below and next skipped st of the row below, skip next st, sc in next 3 sts; repeat from * until 2 sts remain, tr in last skipped st of the row below, sc in last st; fasten off Color A.
Finishing:
Using yarn needle, sew the final end of each color (with the ch-3), to base of next color st two rows above, to mimic the look of the previous color changes on that side of the project. Weave in ends.

Hi Tamara! I love this blanket and just tried to start it but boy am I confused! Will you do a video on this one? I'm not understanding row three (which does not bode well for me, lol)

Ariana
Hi! I'm trying to make this blanket to donate. I have a silly question. I'm making a lapghan, so I chained 108. Row 1 went well, but how many DCs should be in row 2?
Thank you!
Tamara Kelly
Hi Ariana! You should have 107 dc in Row 2, in this case. 🙂
