So as you can see in the video, crocheting bag handles is easy – but it pays to plan ahead! Stitch markers, scraps of yarn, whatever you’ve got – mark out the spots where you want the handles to come away from the bag, and then count and adjust from there.
Then, when you finally crochet that first round of handles, think about how long you want the straps to be. Just big enough to slip your hand through? Long enough to go over the shoulder? Or so long you can wear it as a cross-body bag? It’s up to you!
Adding more rounds makes thicker handles – and using shorter stitches makes them more sturdy. If you don’t want them to stretch at all, try sewing a pretty ribbon along the inside – match the color to make it fade away, or pick something that pops!
Crochet bag handles are yet another point where you can customize your crochet projects. And you can use this tutorial to help you design your very own bag too! Make a nice solid bottom, pick a favorite stitch pattern for the body, and then create some custom handles!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this video tutorial, and use it to inspire your own crochet creations!
