    Waterlily Throw

    Published: Nov 23, 2018 · Modified: Oct 28, 2022 by Tamara Kelly · 22 Comments

The Waterlily Throw is a circular afghan with lots of color and texture, ready for cozying up with this winter! And it's a free crochet blanket pattern here on Moogly!

The Waterlily Throw was sort of a "doodling" pattern for me. I picked a color scheme and decided I wanted a round afghan... and just started crocheting, letting the stitch pattern develop as I went, listening to how the stitches and colors worked together.

Speaking of colors, I was inspired by the Waterlily colorway of Red Heart With Love! These lovely hues create a beautiful palette - and changing them will lead to lots of different looks with this pattern, which is half the fun! Red Heart With Love has dozens of colors and stripes and multis to choose from, and it's family friendly and easy care - perfect for gift giving!

And that's the Waterlily Throw! I decided not to add a "different" edging - I really like the way it looks ending on the Color F rnd. However, this is a great last round to add your own special edgings or touches to, too! And there's plenty of each color left over to do just that.

I'm trying to follow this written pattern but i keep
Having to refer back to video tutorial.. I'm now on row 28 and i followed the written instructions and row came out wrong i followed video and row came out right ... video row 28 says to slip stitch into next stitch written instructions doesn't say to slip stitch just says to chain one ... so when i followed written instructions my row was off

Hi Dawn! I've gone back over Row 28 and there's no slip stitch (other than the join at the end of the rnd) on either the written pattern or the video. Was it perhaps another round?

I'm enjoying this pattern. Thank you. I'm having problems with Round 17. In Round 17, how many fptc should there be? and how many sc?

Hello Tamara, great pattern! Can you tell me why my work would be wavy? I’m on row 10. Stitch count is correct but it’s starting to wave up. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you

Hi MaryAnn! My best guess would be tension level - try going down a hook size and see if that helps! 🙂

Okay, my brain is probably not working right. You mention 1400yd Red Heart with Love yarn. The only With Love I am finding has a different yardage. Solids have 370 yds each. Ombre has 230 yds. HELP!!!! I want to make sure I order enough yarn without having enough leftover to three more?!?!?!?! Thanks.

Yes, that's why I listed the number of skeins per colorway - since some are smaller than others. 🙂

      Hello Tamara,
Love this pattern. Only thing is I’m at the end and I only have 45”. I guess I’ll have to do another set 21-29 + the last few rows. Used RHSS Ombré in violet and RHSS Aran. Gifting to my purple loving sister!!

Hi Riv! Thank you so much! You could try starting again at Rnd 24, but you'll need to add more stitches between the increases to keep it growing!

The standard rate to increase in a flat circle in dc sts is 12 per round. 🙂
