Last Minute Make for Easter Eggs - or Any Time!
These Velvet Eggs take only a few minutes and only 25 yards of yarn - so it's time to go through all those balls of odds and ends! I've used a worsted weight velvet here, so you can use any gorgeous worsted weight yarn you have. Or just change the hook size to match the yarn you'd like to use - just make sure it creates a nice solid fabric to hold in the fiberfill without it peeking through.

Sleek and Modern - or Cuddly and Fun
I've been noticing a lot of velvet fabric wrapped eggs lately, so of course, I couldn't resist crocheting my own! I think they look pretty enough to put in a lovely bowl on the table - but I have a sneaking suspicion they'll end up in my niece's toy basket, and that's okay too! I used Bernat Baby Velvet, so I know this yarn has been thoroughly tested to be safe for kids!

Another Super Quick Squish!
Just like the Octopus, Narwhal, and Squid Squishes, the Bunny Squish can be filled with a microbead pillow ball, or you can use Fiberfill. And by using Bernat Blanket, it works up just as fast, and just as cuddly!
I've used a few of these balls now, and once in a while I do come across one that's overfilled and bigger than it's supposed to be - I just open up a seam, remove the extra beads, and sew it up again.

In addition to the yarn and stuffing, you can use safety eyes and nose as shown, or you can use buttons - or a bit of yarn to embroider on the face. And then there's the tail! I used a faux fur pom pom, but you can make yours with yarn if you like. Make your bunny your own!

Cute and Cuddly for Kids and Adults
This bunny pillow is fun to make - and so fun to squeeze! I used safety eyes and a nose, but this pattern has not been tested for safety for children under 3 years of age. If you are crocheting it for a baby or toddler, you may wish to embroider on the face and make sure that the ears are sewn on quite securely. If using it as a photo prop, be sure not to leave the toy with a baby unattended.

Bag of Inspiration
Caron Little Crafties come in a bag of 20 mini-skeins - great for all sorts of crafts and multi-colored projects! So I worked up one of them in the corner to corner stitch and counted up how many blocks it made - 116 double crochet blocks with a 5.5mm hook, with a bit left over to account for variations. With this info, I was ready to start graphing!

Of course, I also needed a "background" yarn - and Caron Simply Soft is the perfect yarn to combine with the Little Crafties! I chose white, but I think this blanket would be amazing with black or gray as the backdrop for the diamonds. Just switch out the black or gray diamonds with the white Little Crafties skein!

Keeping It Simple
Both written instructions and a graph are included below. I tried to match the colors in the graph to the actual yarn colors and create a random-ish arrangement, but of course, you can rearrange these colors however you like!

The tricky bit in writing up the pattern is that none of these colors have official names. So above you can see the names I've used for the colors next to what's left of each after the blanket was finished. Feel free to follow this plan or mix it up!

How to Corner to Corner Crochet
Corner to Corner Color Changes
How to Read Corner to Corner Crochet Patterns
How to Read This Pattern:
This pattern uses the double crochet corner to corner, aka diagonal box stitch. As such, it is not written out in "standard" crochet pattern format. Instead, the pattern is written as follows:
Row 1 [RS]: White (1 block)
Row 2 [WS]: White x 2 (2 blocks)
Row 3 [RS]: White x 3 (3 blocks)
The first row of a corner to corner pattern is always made of 1 block, the second row always has 2, the third has 3, etc. This holds true until the corners are made, where the number will either hold steady (1 corner made) or decrease (2 corners made).
The color name refers to the color used, as listed above. The number refers to how many of these blocks to make in a row. So Row 27 reads:
Row 27 [RS]: White x 4, Medium Green, White x 4, Medium Green, White x 7, Light Green, White x 4, Light Green, White x 4 (27 blocks)
This means that you work the first 4 blocks in White, the next block in Medium Green, the next 4 blocks in white, the next block in Medium Green, the next 7 blocks in white... etc.... for a total of 27 blocks. As you can see, when there's no number listed, you make only one block in that color!
To change colors, finish the last dc of each block with the new color, and leave the color attached to be picked back up on the next row. Use Butterfly Bobbins (see tutorial linked above) or another bobbin system to manage the yarn colors.
When the pattern reads "Corner," after Row 80, this means that you begin the next Row by slip stitching along the side of the last block, then slip stitch into the ch-3 sp, then ch 3 and make the next block as usual.
This creates a "corner" and the third edge of the project. Since this pattern makes a square blanket, you then stop at the other end of that row when you join to the last square of the previous row, then turn, and slip stitch into those stitches before beginning the next row. This creates the 4th edge of the blanket.
Graphed Instructions Included
In addition to the written instructions and small-scale graph below, you can CLICK HERE to download the graph for this pattern! It's a printable PDF, but you'll need to assemble it a bit - you can use the numbers to help you figure out the assembly. This creates a larger graph that should be easier to read.
I do recommend that you print out both the written instructions and the graph. Follow the written instructions (cross off each section of color as you go!) and use the graph to check your work as you go!

Border Instructions
I have added a very simple border to keep the crisp clean look. However, this round is the perfect setup for your own special border or edging!
Rnd 1: Continuing with main color, ch 1, 2 sc in side of each dc or ch-3, sc in each sl st or dc, ch 2 at the corners; join and break yarn.
The Diamond Quilt C2C Graphgan does take time - and there are lots of ends to weave in! I like to leave mine for a movie night - but some people back their blankets with fabric like fleece instead! However you want to take care of them is up to you!

I can’t wait to see your Diamond Quilt crochet blankets! If this free crochet throw pattern does inspire you to make your own afghan, and you post a photo on social media, be sure to tag me @mooglyblog or #mooglyblog so I can check it out too! I love seeing what you make!

An Oversized Fit for Long Wear
The Trenta Hood is a favorite for adults, and inspired requests for kid's sizes! So I've reworked this pattern in three sizes - ages 1 to 2 years, 2 to 5 years, and 5 to 10 years. Having had little ones, I don't think this style of hat would stay on a baby, so I started with the toddler sizes. And because of the oversize fit, each size fits for a long time!

An Easy Care Yarn for Kids
In addition to changing the sizes and proportions for kids, I've also used Red Heart Soft - so it's easy to care for, and you can make it in all their favorite colors! I've also linked to the pom poms I've used - they are optional, but they do also remove for washing and are just a lot of fun!

Changing Colors for Striped Patterns
Schematic

Notes:
These instructions are for all 3 sizes. When stitch, row, and colors differ, they are written in the pattern as 1-2 years (2-5 years, 5-10 years). It is helpful to circle or highlight the information for the size you are making before you begin.
Instructions
Row 1: With the first color, ch 89 (99, 109), skip the ch closest to the hook, hdc in the next ch, *sc in the next ch, dc in the next ch; rep from * until 1 st rem, hdc in last st; turn. (88 (98, 108) sts)
Row 2: With next color, ch 1, hdc2tog, dc in the next st, *sc in the next st, dc in the next st; rep from * until 3 sts rem, sc in next st, hdc2tog in last sts; turn. (86 (96, 106) sts)
Row 3: With next color, ch 1, hdc2tog, *sc in the next st, dc in the next st; rep from * until 2 sts rem, hdc2tog; turn. (84 (94, 104) sts)
Rows 4 - 21 (23, 25): Rep Rows 2 and 3, cycling through all the colors. Break Color B (C, B). Break Color C (B, A), leaving a long tail for seaming.
Assembly:
Fold last row in half so that the first and last sts are together (see schematic above). Use stitch markers to secure seam. Use the long tail and a yarn needle to sew the back seam of the hat closed using the mattress stitch.

Edging: Insert hook in bottom edge of hat near where remaining color is attached, yo and pull up a loop; ch 1, sc evenly across to corner, work 3 sc at the corner, sc evenly across the front of the hat, work 3 sc at the next corner, and sc evenly across the bottom again to where the row began; join and break yarn.

Optional: Sew buttons to inside of corners. Use buttons to hold pompoms on for wearing (remove for washing).

Pick Your Favorite Yarn
I made the Heart Shaped Cloth with Red Heart Scrubby Smoothie - it's one of my favorite cotton yarns. But you could use Lily Sugar'n Cream to keep it dishy/washy or do something fun and textured for a coaster - or even hang them from a garland!

Granny Stitch Shaping
I used the classic granny stitch to design the Heart Shaped Cloth, but to get that iconic shape I played with the ends of the rows. If you need help, be sure to check out the video tutorial (coming February 11th). It's a quick project and perfect for stash busting!

You might notice the chart on the card in the photos - that's the chart for this pattern, and it's included below! I'll have more fun ideas for what you can do with this chart very soon too!
