Published: Apr 9, 2021 by Tamara Kelly · Leave a Comment

Have you seen the latest from Marly Bird? She's running a BiCrafty Boot Camp! If you're a crocheter, you already know how fun it is to play with yarn - add another new yarny trick to your toolbox and learn how to knit from Marly!

Marly Bird's BiCrafty Boot Camp: Beginner Knitting Lessons for CrochetersDisclaimer: This is a guest post from Marly Bird and Kathryn Vercillo.

Learn How to Knit with Marly!

Hey crocheters, have you ever considered trying to knit? If it’s ever crossed your mind then now is the time because experienced BiCrafty author, designer, and teacher Marly Bird is offering a FREE weekly series of knitting lessons geared just towards Crocheters.
Marly loves bringing the knit and crochet communities together, often offers stitch-alongs that have something for both crafts, and has extensive experience teaching both. In this BiCrafty Boot Camp, she’s bringing her knowledge of crochet to the craft of knitting to give you tips so you can more easily learn knitting thanks to what you already know in crochet.
The Boot Camp consists of weekly blog posts along with Facebook and YouTube lives and videos. It launched on 3/31/21 but is starting off super slow to give everyone a chance to get into the swing of things. Visit https://marlybird.com/tag/bicrafty-boot-camp for all of the details, the first two lessons, and a guide to knitting needles for beginners.

    What's Included?

This weekly series will teach anyone how to knit from the ground up. However, it is particularly geared towards crocheters who are ready to become bicrafty by learning how to knit. Marly Bird is known for being bicrafty, offering patterns and classes in both knit and crochet. She wants to bring this joy to other crocheters who may have always thought about knitting but never tackled the task. This fun interactive series of lessons is a great way to learn!

Each week on the blog you’ll find a new post to help you develop and build up foundational knitting skills. The posts include:

    • Crocheter’s Edge (tips for crocheters about how to use what they already know to make learning to knit easier)
    • Knitters’ Tips for Crocheters (insights from knitters about how to tweak crochet skills for knitting when crochet habits might be getting in the way)
    • Step-by-step instructions and videos for each foundational step of learning how to knit
    • A sampler stitch knit scarf free pattern that develops throughout the series
    • Links to additional videos and Marly Bird patterns to help you grow each of the skills
    • Tips, tricks, and techniques; Marly is an experienced teacher who loves sharing what she knows about knitting to help others learn

In addition, BiCrafty Boot Camp: Beginner Knitting Lessons for Crocheters has an interactive component. Two Marly Bird team members are learning to knit right along with you. Join Kathryn and Cryssi on their journey every other Thursday night at 5pm PST/ 8pm EST beginning 4/1/21 as they go live on Facebook and Instagram to share their thoughts and challenges as crocheters learning to knit. You can knit and chat, ask questions, share tips, and enjoy the community experience of learning to knit together.

What makes this knitting series different from other ways of learning how to knit?

It’s especially perfect for people who already know how to crochet. So many crocheters have thought about learning how to knit but haven’t done it yet. This is a chance to join other crocheters in the same boat and learn the skills together. Marly Bird is an established bicrafty designer and teacher and the series will point out skills that crocheters already have that make learning to knit easier. It will also show some of the common pitfalls that crocheters come across when learning to knit in order to avoid those issues and leapfrog your way into becoming a knitter.

    What if you don't crochet?

The series emphasizes tips for crocheters who are learning how to knit. However, it truly is a ground-up “learn to knit” set of lessons. Therefore, anyone who is interested in learning how to knit can join in. It’s a great way to participate in the craft community, learn alongside others, and get tips from people who do have that yarn experience. And who knows - you might find later that you also want to learn how to crochet and you’ll have a whole support system of people there to help you.

    But... what does it cost?

    Nothing! It’s FREE.

    Awesome! Ready to sign up?

Marly Bird’s BiCrafty Boot Camp: Knitting Lessons for Crocheters begins on her blog on 3/31/21. You can work at your own pace but that’s when you’ll find the first lesson and new stitches, skills, and techniques will appear on the blog every week thereafter throughout the summer.
