    Just One Cake Needed!

The Ripley Shawl is a one cake pattern, made with Red Heart It's A Wrap Sprinkles, and a US-F, 3.75mm hook (Furls Odyssey shown). I chose the French Macaron colorway, but they are all beautiful!

Red Heart It's A Wrap Sprinkles - colorways

It features 3 distinct crochet stitch patterns - getting easier as you go! So you can wind down the pattern, relaxing more and more as you crochet it. You can see it "in action" on my most recent Facebook live video!

Ripley Shawl - free crochet pattern coming soon to Moogly!

    Make it Your Own!

While I've designed the Ripley Shawl so that it only uses one cake, you can easily make it bigger in parts two and three - so buy a second skein of It's A Wrap Sprinkles if you like your shawls larger! As written, it's 44” wide at top and 24” at the center point. So you can use those measurements to determine if you'd like to add a second cake!

The Ripley Shawl Moogly Fall Crochet Along Schedule:

Crochet Baskets that Stand Up Tall

Have you ever wondered how to make a crochet basket stand up? There are several techniques that can be used - and one of my favorites is using a crochet hook much smaller than the yarn recommends. This creates a very stiff fabric!

Bernat Maker Big and Basket Base - get the free pattern to combine them on Moogly!

Another method is to use a hard basket base, as I have done here! I got this basket base from Hooked For Life. There they have both wooden and aluminum bases to choose from! And while I left mine plain, they are paintable for a custom look too. I think you could great really creative with Mod Podge on these too! UPDATE FOR 2026: Hooked For Life is not currently selling these bag bases, CLICK HERE for a bunch of available options!

Bernat Maker Big - so Big!

This free chunky crochet basket pattern with handles is made with Bernat Maker Big. This jumbo yarn has a great feel and combined with a smaller hook, it creates a very stiff fabric!

Super Sturdy Crochet Basket with Handles - free pattern on Moogly!

In past basket patterns, I've combined the trick of a small hook with a double layer of crochet to create stand up crochet baskets. The Super Sturdy Crochet Basket doesn't need this though - just one layer is plenty in this yarn! UPDATE FOR 2026: This yarn is also discontinued. I recommend Bernat Fab!, or you can use any of the thinner Jumbo weight yarns!

Rnd 2: Insert hook in first st made in Rnd 1 on other side of base, yo and pull up a loop, pull up a loop in next st, yo and pull through both loops for first sc (place marker), sc in each remaining loop around, including the loop made at the beginning of this rnd. (48 sc)

    Llama and Cactus Inspiration

Although I've made a few corner to corner projects before, the Llama and Cactus blanket is my first graphgan! I really wanted to try them out - and I had some special inspiration.

Llama and Cactus C2C Graphgan - Moogly

My sister's baby shower had a llama and cactus theme! This theme is just about everywhere these days - for parties, for clothes, for decore, you name it. So... I created the Llama and Cactus C2C Graphgan crochet pattern!

Llama and Cactus C2C Graphgan - free crochet pattern on Moogly - closeup

    Easy Care for Gifting

To make this pattern, I used Red Heart With Love. This is my go-to yarn for blankets - particularly ones that will be gifted. There is a huge selection of solid colors, and it's super easy to care for when it's done! I hope you'll give this yarn - and this pattern - a try for yourself!

How to Read Corner to Corner Crochet Patterns

    How to Make Butterfly Bobbins

    Crochet Abbreviations

Llama and Cactus C2C Graphgan - in progress

    How to Read This Pattern:

This pattern uses the corner to corner, aka diagonal box stitch. As such, it is not written out in "standard" crochet pattern format. Instead, the pattern is written as follows:

    Row 1 [WS]: A (1 block)
    Row 2 [RS]: A2 (2 blocks)
    Row 3: A3 (3 blocks)

The first row of a corner to corner pattern is always made of 1 block, the second row always has 2, the third has 3, etc. This holds true until the corners are made, where the number will either hold steady (1 corner made) or decrease (2 corners made).

The letter refers to the color used, as listed above. The number refers to how many of these blocks to make in a row. So Row 16 reads:

    Row 16: D2, C2, B2, C7, B3 (16 blocks)

This means that you work the first 2 blocks in D, the next 2 blocks in C, the next 2 blocks in B, the next 7 blocks in C, and the last 3 blocks in B - for a total of 16 blocks. If there is no number? Then there's only one block in that color!

To change colors, finish the last dc of each block with the new color, and leave the color attached to be picked back up on the next row. Use Butterfly Bobbins (see tutorial linked above) or another bobbin system to manage the yarn colors.

When the pattern reads "Corner," this means that you begin the next Row by slip stitching along the side of the last block, then slip stitch into the ch-3 sp, then ch 3 and make the next block as usual.

This creates a "corner" and the third edge of the project. After both Corner instructions, note that the number of blocks in each Row begins decreasing.

    Graphed Instructions Included

In addition to the written instructions below, CLICK HERE to download the graph for this pattern! It's a printable PDF, but you'll need to assemble it a bit - any smaller to fit on one page, and I'm afraid it wouldn't be readable.

I do recommend that you print out both the written instructions and the graph. Follow the written instructions (cross off each section of color as you go!) and use the graph to check your work as you go!

    Soft as a Cloud

I love the way this stitch pattern creates simple chevrons without increases or decreases. And I also love this yarn! The Hygge Cloud Super Scarf is made with Red Heart Hygge. This is an incredibly soft yarn with lots of gorgeous "furriness" to it - and it creates the softest, coziest fabric!

Hygge Cloud Super Scarf - free crochet pattern on Moogly

    A Simple Repeat

While the color changes meant I had to write out a few of the repeats, it's basically the same row of instructions for the whole scarf. It's not a boring row though - and you'll be turning so fast your hook will spin! This makes the Hygge Cloud Super Scarf a perfect "chill" project - just relax and crochet! The tassels are fun too - but totally optional.

    Super... Or Not So Super

Super scarves are very big - but the Hygge Cloud Scarf doesn't have to be! I've included the stitch multiple below so you can make it as wide or narrow as you like. And then you can crochet to any length you like as well, for a truly custom creation.
