Block #24:
Spirals and Lace Afghan Square
by Andee Graves of Mamas2Hands
Above is the original, made in 5 colors of With Love. Below is my version, made in my 4 colors!
The Details
My Notes: This block is a fun call back to Block 17, with small squares coming together to make the whole. If you haven't crocheted spirals before, you'll learn a lot here! Just be sure to read all the notes and use those stitch markers!
Helpful Links and Tutorials: Crochet Abbreviations; Front and Back Loop Only; Standing Double Crochet; Seamless Finishing; Sl St Loosely.
Sizing: My square was running large, so I eliminated Border Rnd 3 for size. But remember, everyone's gauge and tension level are different so be sure to measure as you go. Learn how to adjust for size HERE to make sure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.
What I Did: I used a Furls US-J, 6.0 mm hook and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows: Corner Spirals: Bluebell and Navy; Side Spirals: Bluebell and True Blue; Center Spiral: True Blue and Navy; Joining Spirals: White; Border Rnd 1: White; Border Rnd 2: Bluebell; Border Rnds 3: eliminated for sizing; Border Rnd 4: White.
This square benefited from a very mild blocking. To block this square, I used the wet blocking method and a Chetnanigans BlocksAll Ultra blocking board and Perfecting Strips.
