Block #10:
Viola's Gardenia Square
by The Lavender Chair
Above is the original made in 4 colors! Below, you can see my version, made with my 4 colors!
The Details:
My Notes: This pattern features lots of clever and unique stitches - be sure to read each row carefully before you begin! Also, do *not* panic when you see Rnd 12 - it all works out, I promise! Trust the pattern!
Helpful Links and Tutorials: Crochet Abbreviations; Standing Dc; Post Stitches; Puff Stitches; Seamless Finishing
Sizing: My square came right to 12" as written. But everyone's gauge and tension level are different so be sure to measure as you go. Learn how to adjust for size HERE to make sure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.
What I Did: I used a Furls US-J, 6.0 mm hook and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows: Rnd 1: Bluebell; Rnd 2: True Blue; Rnd 3: Navy; Rnd 4: White; Rnd 5: Bluebell; Rnd 6: True Blue; Rnd 7 and 8: Navy; Rnd 9: Bluebell; Rnd 10: True Blue; Rnd 11: Navy; Rnd 12 and 13: White; Rnd 14: Navy; Rnd 15: True Blue; Rnd 16: White.
This square benefited from a medium blocking. To block this square, I used the wet blocking method and a Chetnanigans BlocksAll Ultra blocking board and Perfecting Strips.

I just found this CAL and can't wait to get started.

This pattern is very difficult to follow. No stitch counts, no indications where stitches go.
I don't want to say anything negative about someones work but I'm stuck at round 6. Will modify to
make it work for me but I wouldn't do this one again without better instructions. This pattern is not
written in normal crochet language, at least not one that I understand.
Margareth
I agree that there are problems with the odd incorrect instruction, but the video helps a lot. If you can't see the link, turn off ad blocking as it will prevent the video from showing.
For Round 6, the (DC, chain 2, DC) goes into the center of the 5 dc stitches. There isn't a chain 1 space there from round 5.
Hope that helps!
Jessica
OMG I was stuck on this too. thanks Margareth for your tip.
Patty Boyer
I have been unable to download this pattern, every with Print-Friendly (I can only get print, and I'm saving for later!)
Margareth
You can click print and select "Print to PDF" instead of your printer. Just click where the printer name is and you should get different options. That's how I did it for my own pdf at least!
Hope that helps !:)
Tamara Kelly
Thank you Margareth! It's so good there are so many options now!
Tamara Kelly
Hi Patty! You may want to contact the designer for her preferred method and recommendations!

Tamara - Block #10. Round 14. Your “What I Did” indicates white. The photo of your block looks like Navy. Please clarify. Thank you.
Tamara Kelly
Thank you for catching that, I've edited the post! 🙂
Michelle
I'm enjoying this pattern, but did find an error and I can't seem to find a place to contact the designer on her website. In Round 6, the (Dc, Chain 2, Dc) does not go in the next chain 1 space, but goes in the next DC (the third DC of the group). The video does clarify this, but I thought she might like to correct her pattern.
Tamara Kelly
Thank you Michelle, I'll let her know!
