Block #16:
Savannah Square
by Polly Plum of
Every Trick on the Hook
Above is the original made in 6 colors! Below, you can see my version, made with my 4 colors!
The Details
My Notes: This block looks a lot more complicated than it is. It's just a lovely combo of stitches that come together perfectly - and surprisingly simply!
Helpful Links and Tutorials: Crochet Abbreviations; Magic Circle; Standing Single Crochet; Standing Double Crochet; Seamless Finishing
Sizing: When making my square, I finished by working through Rnd 11 as instructed, and then making Rnd 12 as a simple round of hdc - and that got me right to 12"! Remember, everyone's gauge and tension level are different so be sure to measure as you go. Learn how to adjust for size HERE to make sure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.
What I Did: I used a Furls US-J, 6.0 mm hook and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows: Rnd 1-2: Navy, Rnd 3: True Blue, Rnd 4: Bluebell, Rnd 5: White, Rnd 6: Bluebell, Rnd 7: Navy, Rnd 8: True Blue, Rnd 9: White, Rnd 10: True Blue, Rnd 11 and 12: White.
This square benefited from a mild blocking. To block this square, I used the wet blocking method and a Chetnanigans BlocksAll Ultra blocking board and Perfecting Strips.

Frances E Carter
Hi, my name is Elaine and I would like to start your block of the month. It looks like you are on pattern 16. If I start this are you going to take them down right away? To catch up I'm going to have to do 15 blocks.
Thank you Frances (Elaine) Carter

Hi Frances! Don't worry, all the blocks are here to stay - each designer agrees to leave them up forever and move them to a free Ravelry download if they do have to close their blog. That's been the "rule" for the past couple years - I cannot unfortunately say the same for the first couple years (live and learn!). 🙂 Some people start all the way back in 2014 with the ones that are still there, so you can just jump in wherever you like.

I am enjoying this CAL, I love the colors. I am so eager to get the next square. Good job, you guys are amazing.

I'm so glad to hear it Elizabeth, thank you!
