    Details for MooglyCAL2026 Block 18

My Notes: The Grainline Square is our first diagonal square of the year! This one leaves the color changes up to you, so you can customize it to fit your blanket. The stitches themselves are simple but interesting, and this block works up quickly. You will want to keep a ruler or measuring tape handy while you work, so you know when to stop (or keep) increasing - see my Sizing notes below!

Helpful Links and Tutorials: Crochet Abbreviations, Magic Circle, Standing Half Double Crochet, Hdc2tog, Working Into the Edge, and seamless join.

Sizing: My square was over 11" after Row 19, so I skipped the remaining increasing rows and jumped to the Row 23 decreasing instructions. Then after the Border, I needed just a little bit more to get to 12", so I added one extra round of single crochet.

Everyone's gauge is different, so be sure to measure as you go! Learn how to adjust for size HERE to ensure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down, not diagonally/corner to corner.

Yarn Options: This year, our designers have chosen from a variety of yarns, including Brava Worsted, Swish Worsted, Jimmy Beans Wool Beanstalk, Berroco Vintage, and MadTosh Vintage. For this square, Brittany used Berroco Vintage and I used Brava Worsted!

    What I Did:

I used a US-J, 6.0 mm crochet hook, and Brava Worsted yarn, and my color scheme was as follows (see pics for more info on placement):

    Rows 1 - 9: Espresso
    Rows 10 - 16:
    Denim
    Rows 17 - 21:
    Fig
    Rows 22 - 28:
    Custard
    Rows 29 - 37:
    Seashell
    Border:
    Cream

This square needed only a little bit of blocking, so I used wet blocking.

PLEASE NOTE: The designers all hold individual copyrights for their patterns. They may choose to make videos of their patterns, and you can certainly request them from the designers. In addition, there are videos linked in the notes for specific stitches and techniques that may help you with the pattern. They may offer paid PDFs of the pattern, but have agreed to leave it up for free on their website or on Ravelry for as long as possible.
