My Notes: The Archie Argyle Crochet Square is a fun combination of very simple stitches - and super tall stitches! She has included step-by-step photos and video tutorials, so this is perfect for beginners and experienced crocheters alike. I used the recommended color changes points, which were just enough to squeeze in my 6 colors - with only 13 rows, this one works up quickly. This one will also be lovely in solids, and I'm excited to see how all of you interpret this one as well!
Helpful Links and Tutorials: Crochet Abbreviations, Chainless Starting Double Crochet, Standing dc, Standing sc, Post stitches, Tall Stitches, and seamless join.
Sizing: I got to 12" as written. But everyone's gauge is different, so be sure to measure as you go! Learn how to adjust for size HERE to ensure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down, not diagonally/corner to corner.
Yarn Options: This year, our designers have chosen from a variety of yarns, including Brava Worsted, Swish Worsted, Jimmy Beans Wool Beanstalk, Berroco Vintage, and MadTosh Vintage. Both of the squares shown here for Block #1 were made with Brava Worsted.
What I Did:
I used a US-J, 6.0 mm crochet hook, and Brava Worsted yarn, and my color scheme was as follows (see pics for more info on placement):
Rnd 1: Custard
Rnds 2 - 4: Seashell
Rnds 5 and 6: Fig
Rnds 7 - 9: Denim
Rnds 10 - 12: Espresso
Rnd 13: Cream
This square required a mild blocking so I used the wet blocking method and used a bit of steam as well.

PLEASE NOTE: The designers all hold individual copyrights for their patterns. They may choose to make videos of their patterns, and you can certainly request them from the designers. In addition, there are videos linked in the notes for specific stitches and techniques that may help you with the pattern. They may offer paid PDFs of the pattern, but have agreed to leave it up for free on their website or on Ravelry for as long as possible.

Why doesn’t the 2026 Moogly CAL Pinterest board show up. The “Like to see all the squares visually, all at once? CLICK HERE for the Pinterest Board!” work? I would really like to see it before I invest my time due to finishing up three gift afghans. I really like the CALs but I do want to see them beforehand. Please send a correct link. Thank you.
Tamara Kelly says
Hi Rebecca! Thank you for asking, I will reword that to make it a little clearer. I will be adding each square to the board as they are released - at this point I'd guess at least 20 of them haven't even been designed yet!

Is there an email link that will allow me to get a notification when the new square comes out? I thought I did it, but I didn't get an email.
Thanks,
Sheri
Tamara Kelly says
Hi Sheri! It looks like you are signed up for the regular email newsletter, but not the CAL specific one. There is a form above, it's gray with an orange oval button - that is for the CAL only one. 🙂

Anyone having problems with FP9st? I have watch Jessie’s video, tried about 10 times and I always get loosened yarn around the 5 th stitch. Help!
Tamara Kelly says
Hi Lise! Tall stitches can definitely be tricky! My best tips are to try to keep your yarn overs really close together on the hook, close to the "working end" of the hook. Then continue keeping them as close together as possible as you work them all off, putting minimal strain on the already-worked-off loops. Then, when you've finished the stitch, you can tug on the strands within the post of the stitch to even them out a bit. 🙂

Well I gave up! What I did was ch9 and DK st my way up. Did the job the FP 6, 5 & 4 were done properly.
Finished it last night. Thank you for your reply. Lise
