My Notes: The Cozy Circles Crochet Square is like a tiny little blanket for our blanket! Jennifer has designed some lovely puff st motifs that are then joined-as-you-go, and finished off with a fun border. So many color possibilities here! This one does require you to keep a tape measure handy, however.
When you are making your motifs, keep an eye on the size - each should measure about 3 inches. If your square is smaller than that, you can add more to the Border Rnds to make up for it. If it's a little bit too big, you can shrink the border rounds (that's what I did, see below). But if you're way over 3 inches, you'll want adjust the final round of the Squares down to a single crochet rnd.
Also, good news - there's a full tutorial up on YouTube! It is embedded right in the pattern on Jennifer's site.
Helpful Links and Tutorials: Crochet Abbreviations, Magic Circle, Chainless Starting Double Crochet, Puff Stitches, Standing sc, Standing hdc, Standing dc, and seamless join.
Sizing: My square was running a little large, so I worked Border Rnd 2 in hdc instead of dc, and skipped the ch-1 sps - that got me right to 12". But everyone's gauge is different, so be sure to measure as you go! Learn how to adjust for size HERE to ensure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down, not diagonally/corner to corner.
Yarn Options: This year, our designers have chosen from a variety of yarns, including Brava Worsted, Swish Worsted, Jimmy Beans Wool Beanstalk, Berroco Vintage, and MadTosh Vintage. For this square, I used Brava Worsted, and Jennifer did the same!
What I Did:
I used a US-J, 6.0 mm crochet hook, and Brava Worsted yarn, and my color scheme was as follows (see pics for more info on placement):
Square 1: A) Seashell, B) Espresso
Square 2: A) Denim, B) Fig
Square 3: A) Custard, B) Denim
Square 4: A) Espresso, B) Custard
Square 5: A) Fig, B) Espresso
Square 6: A) Fig, B) Seashell
Square 7: A) Denim, B) Seashell
Square 8: A) Seashell, B) Custard
Square 9: A) Denim, B) Espresso
All Squares Color C: Cream
Border Rnd 1: Fig
Border Rnd 2: Cream
Border Rnd 3: skipped for size
This square required a moderate blocking so I used the wet blocking method and then steamed it as well.
