Crashing Waves Blanket Square

My Notes: This square has texture, color, and novelty - love it! The Crashing Waves Blanket Square is quick to learn and easy to memorize, with great results. When you're ready to start making the second row of Spike Stitches, be sure to look closely at how Michele wants us to make them - your hook will go in slightly to the side of where you might think. It takes a little time and attention to get each spike stitch into the right place, but the effect is worth it! Be sure to check out my note on sizing below to understand the changes I made in my square.
Helpful Links and Tutorials: Crochet Abbreviations, Standing sc, Spike Stitches, Surface Crochet, and seamless join.
Sizing: My gauge for this one was way smaller than Michele's, and rather than being 10" across, the main portion of my square worked up to be 8" wide. To keep it square, I skipped Rows 31 and 32. Then, to bring it to 12", I changed Border Rnd 2 to double crochet, and then added two more rounds of double crochet. To make this larger border more interesting, I added a couple of rounds of surface crochet.
But everyone's gauge is different, so be sure to measure as you go! Learn how to adjust for size HERE to ensure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down, not diagonally/corner to corner.
Yarn Options: This year, our designers have chosen from a variety of yarns, including Brava Worsted, Swish Worsted, Jimmy Beans Wool Beanstalk, Berroco Vintage, and MadTosh Vintage. For this square, I used Brava Worsted, and Michele used Swish Worsted!
What I Did:
I used a US-J, 6.0 mm crochet hook, and Brava Worsted yarn, and my color scheme was as follows (see pics for more info on placement):
Interior of Square:
Color A: Espresso
Color B: Denim
Color C: Fig
Color D: Custard
Color E: Seashell
Border Rnds: Cream
Surface Crochet Rnds: Seashell and Denim
This square required a little bit of blocking. I used the wet blocking method to square it up!

I am having the hardest time carrying the 5 colors
along with the pattern. Any words of what or how would be appreciated.
Tamara Kelly says
Personally, that's too many for me - I cut the yarn after each round. Carrying 5 across the back will get a little crazy unless you stagger the starts, and even then that's a lot of bits to keep track of!
