My Notes: The Metaphor Square takes advantage of the natural tendency for projects worked in flat rounds to skew, in a very clever way! I cannot imagine how much work went into squaring this one up. The stitches themselves are simple, but you'll need to pay close attention to the second half of the instructions. Also, looking closely at the photo helps a lot!
Color choices will have a big impact here, and if I were to do mine over I think I would carry one color through both halves (alternating) to join the first and second sections together. On the other hand, would the center stand out as well? I can't wait to see your versions!
Helpful Links and Tutorials: Crochet Abbreviations, Magic Circle, Standing Single Crochet, Standing Double Crochet, and seamless join.
Sizing: My square was just over 11" after finishing the pattern, so I added one more round of double crochet, which brought it to 12". As you can see, everyone's gauge is different, so be sure to measure as you go! Learn how to adjust for size HERE to ensure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down, not diagonally/corner to corner.
Yarn Options: This year, our designers have chosen from a variety of yarns, including Brava Worsted, Swish Worsted, Jimmy Beans Wool Beanstalk, Berroco Vintage, and MadTosh Vintage. For this square, Carolyn used Berroco Vintage and I used Brava Worsted!
What I Did:
I used a US-J, 6.0 mm crochet hook, and Brava Worsted yarn, and my color scheme was as follows (see pics for more info on placement):
Color A: Seashell
Color B: Custard
Color C: Denim
Color D: Fig
Color E: Espresso
Last Rnd (plus extra rnd for size): Cream
This square needed only a little bit of blocking, so I used wet blocking.
