Block #1:
That 70's Square
by Jessie At Home
Above is her square, in her 3 colors. Below is my CAL square, in my 3 colors!
The Details
My Notes: Jessie has designed a bold, graphic, and fun square with a great retro mod look! The stitches are simple but clever, and I love the way the outline of the flower is stitched. There are lots of photos and a video tutorial to help you along, as well as well-written instructions.
Helpful Links and Tutorials: Standing Single Crochet, Standing Double Crochet, Chainless Starting Double Crochet, Chainless Starting Treble Crochet, and Seamless Finishing.
Sizing: My square was a bit big - I hit 12" after Rnd 7 so stopped there. But everyone's gauge is different so be sure to measure as you go! Learn how to adjust for size HERE to make sure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.
What I Did: I used a Susan Bates US-J, 6.0 mm Twist and Lock hook, and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows (see pics for more info on placement):
IF Rnd 1: Pewter
IF Rnd 2 - 6: White
IF Rnd 7: Pewter
OS Rnd 1 - 6: Light Gray
OS Rnd 7: White
OS Rnd 8: Skipped for size
This square required minimal blocking. I used the wet blocking method, or you could use light steam.

Hi Ginny! Can you tell me which button more specifically? The link here takes you to Jessie at Home's blog post, and her Get the PDF button is not yet active. I'm afraid I can't figure out where a "Preview" button is?
Ginny B
It was when I hit the link for printer friendly.com No worries I think I put in something wrong. I was able to get the correct block and videos. I can't get it to do it again, xo it was me.. Sorry about that. . First time doing your CAL and don't want to miss anything, so I got a bit ahead of myself , excited, not paying close atention.
Thanks for responding and sorry for this.
Ginny B.

Oh how strange! I'm so sorry about that, I have no idea how that happened. But I believe you - tech is often my enemy lol!
Melissa Chinnock
I'm so excited to participate in the CAL for the first time!
I wanted to note that for some reason this post isn't showing on the Moogly home page for me - I had to search for CAL to find it. I'm not sure if that is "as intended" or not, but wanted to flag it just in case.

Hi Melissa! Thank you so much for letting me know, we've been working with our server on this issue for the past few days. So we just tried yet another thing (it's too techy for me lol) and hopefully now if you refresh the home page the newest posts will show up!

Good Morning. I can't get the PDF. When I do get it, it ask for a purchase of $4.99 is that the correct one? Thank you for your help.
Tamara Kelly
Hi Gloria! The PDF is not free, it's free on the blog. 🙂 There are instructions above for Print Friendly if you'd like to use that.

I absolutely LOVE the monochromatic look of this year's CAL. I think I'll do mine in three shades of blue, and I may do one for my Mom in all pink. I've wanted to make her a solid color blanket that highlights texture and pattern over color for years, so this may be the one for me.

Can't wait to start this😊

So glad you're jumping in! 😀
