Block #3:
Bright Star
by Jessie At Home
Above is the original, made in 3 colors of With Love. Below is my version, made in my 4 colors of With Love!
The Details
My Notes: This pattern is made easy with great photos and helpful notes. Be sure to read the “Getting Started” notes before you do begin – it really helps you to understand the stitch counts for this one.
You can start with a Magic Circle here if preferred, but you may not want to pull it completely closed – note that there is a space there. You can also use the Chainless Starting Double Crochet if desired, as well as the Standing Double Crochet and Standing Single Crochet.
Another note – Rnds 7 and 8 both begin with a single crochet. If you’d like, you can begin with a ch 1 and then sc, or skip the ch 1 – it’s up to you! I did ch 1 myself.
For Rnd 9, follow the instructions carefully and don’t overthink it!
For those crocheting this square in just one color, I recommend working every rnd with a color change starting in Rnd 7 in the back loop only.
Helpful Links and Tutorials: Crochet Abbreviations; Standing Single Crochet; Post Stitches; Tall Stitches; Working Into Chains vs Chain Spaces.
Sizing: My square was coming out a bit big, so I used hdc sts for Rnd 15 and eliminated Rnd 16. But remember, everyone’s gauge and tension level are different so be sure to measure as you go. Learn how to adjust for size HERE to make sure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.
What I Did: I used a Furls US-J, 6.0 mm hook and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows:
Rnd 1: Lilac
Rnd 2: Aubergine
Rnd 3: Lilac
Rnd 4: Aubergine
Rnd 5: Lilac
Rnd 6 – 8: Aubergine
Rnd 9 and 10: White
Rnd 11 and 12: Lilac
Rnd 13 and 14: Aubergine
Rnd 15: Light Grey
This square benefited from a moderate blocking. To block this square, I used the wet blocking method and a Chetnanigans BlocksAll Ultra blocking board and Perfecting Strips.

Hello!! I was just wondering IF there is a “yarn pack” available for this CAL?? I realize I’d be a bit behind, but wanted to know IF I could get ALL the yarn I’d need ahead of time for this??
Thanx!!

Hi Chris! Not really – because everyone is choosing their own colors! 🙂 I like the idea though, and I will be seeing what I can do for 2021!

Hi, again!! Thanx for getting back to me. I really like the purple, gray & white colors. Is there a “list” of those colors that were used?? I wish there was a color way—it makes it so much easier for someone like me!! lol
I found some of the Red Heart With Love for $3.59. I thot that was a good deal. That’s why I asked for the colors. IF you happen to know the colors used in the purple, could you please let me know?? Thanx so much!! Stay SAFE & WELL!!
