Block #2:
Moorish Tiles
by Linda Dean
Above is the original, made in 5 colors of With Love. Below is my version, made in my 4 colors of With Love!
The Details
My Notes: This pattern looks intimidating, but it's not too hard at all! That said, as always, be sure to read through the pattern descriptions, notes, and special stitches before you begin!
The instructions for the Moorish Tiles square are well written, but due to the complexity of the pattern I recommend printing it off if you can. For this pattern you want to follow the starting directions rather than starting with a Magic Circle - you'll need the space in the circle later. However, I did take the liberty of using a Standing Double Crochet and ch 2 in place of the ch 5 that begins some rounds.
I also would ask you to pay particular attention when making the large decrease stitches. Note which loop is actually the top of that stitch, and use stitch markers if needed to mark each one. Many crocheters make the mistake of thinking the chain right after the decrease is the actual decrease stitch, but this will keep you from making the same error.

Sizing: My square was coming out a bit small, so I added an extra round to bring it to 12". But remember, everyone's gauge and tension level are different so be sure to measure as you go. Learn how to adjust for size HERE to make sure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.
What I Did: I used a Furls US-J, 6.0 mm hook and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows:
Rnd 1: Aubergine
Rnd 2: Lilac
Rnd 3 and 4: Light Grey
Rnd 5: White
Rnd 6 and 7: Aubergine
Rnd 8: Light Grey
Rnd 9 and 10: Lilac
Rnd 11: White
Rnd 12 and 13: Light Grey
This square benefited from a strong blocking. To block this square, I used the wet blocking method and a Chetnanigans BlocksAll Ultra blocking board and Perfecting Strips.

Hi Connie! Did you join the FB group? They are already working on it! 🙂 Personally, my best recommendation is to study the photo to see just where that stitch goes!
Connie
I have studied and gone to FB.

This pattern is simple but is giving me a run for my thoughts. That's the best part of the Moogly CALs - making squares from designers who are new to me - you keep me interested. Thank you.
