Block #1:
Flower Power Square
by Pink Mambo
Above is the original, made in 3 colors of With Love Metallic. Below is my version, made in my 4 colors of With Love!
The Details
My Notes: I was so excited to get Carolyn on this year's CAL! Carolyn is a fantastic crochet designer, and she creates gorgeous squares. Her contribution, the Flower Power Square, is bold, colorful, textured, solid, graphic, and floral all at the same time!
The instructions for the Flower Power Square are easy to follow, and very well written. Be sure to read her notes including the one between Rnds 14 and 15! I did take the liberty of starting my square with a Magic Circle rather than the ch-5 ring, and using the Chainless Starting Double Crochet in place of ch-3 starts.
Helpful Links and Tutorials: Crochet Abbreviations; Post Stitches; Seamless Finishing; Sl St Loosely.
Sizing: My square came to 12" exactly as written. But remember, everyone's gauge and tension level are different so be sure to measure as you go. Learn how to adjust for size HERE to make sure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.
What I Did: I used a Furls US-J, 6.0 mm hook and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows:
Rnd 1: Lilac
Rnd 2 and 3: Aubergine
Rnd 4 and 5: White
Rnd 6 and 7: Lilac
Rnd 8 - 10: Aubergine
Rnd 11 and 12: White
Rnd 13 - 16: Light Grey
This square benefited from a very mild blocking. To block this square, I used the wet blocking method and a Chetnanigans BlocksAll Ultra blocking board and Perfecting Strips.

PLEASE NOTE: The designers all hold the individual copyrights for their patterns. They may choose to make videos of their patterns, and you can certainly request them from the designers. In addition, there are videos linked in the notes for specific stitches and techniques that may help you with the pattern. But making full tutorial videos for other people's patterns is a violation of copyright so ONLY the pattern designer can do so.
To print or download the pattern for free you can use the Print Friendly button if provided on the site or CLICK HERE for PrintFriendly.com and enter the pattern URL there. SO excited to be starting with Pink Mambo!
Tamara Kelly
Whoops, thanks! 😉 I can't believe that's the first 2019 to 2020 I've missed so far haha!
Renee Thanig
Help please, round 9 says FASTEN off but it doesn't say where to FASTEN again on round 10.
Tamara Kelly
Whoops, looks like I missed it too - no need to fasten off for that one! I'll let the designer know! 🙂
Renee Thanig
Thanks, I did manage to figure it out after reading the next round and working it out counting backwards.

Hi. I need a little help. I know how to do a bpsc, but how do you join a new yarn as a bpsc into your current work? I've read through and watched your tips, and the designer's tips as well but I'm at a loss as to how that's done. Others don't seem to have my problem.
Tamara Kelly
The easiest way is to put a slip knot on your hook in the new color, and then make the bpsc st using that slip knot loop as the working loop on your hook - just go around the stitch, yo and pull up a loop, and yo and pull through that loop and the slip knot loop. Does that make sense?

I am looking forward to a fun crocheting year. Than you for providing this.
Lora
I just found your 2018, 2019 Cals and I'm super excited to start with 2020! Can you tell me how much yarn to purchase to make the entire years worth of patterns? It's so hard to match colors later if you run out.
Tamara Kelly
Hi Lora! That info is in this post: https://www.mooglyblog.com/mooglycal2020/ I hope you enjoy it!
Raven Gerson
Excited about trying the 2020 CAL I hope I can keep up! Can you add me to the list for the emails for the CAL
Thanks,

judy
good day Is there a way to print the pattern of without al the advertisement thanks
Tamara Kelly
Hello Judy! Yes, it's explained above in the notes. 🙂
Lauren
My first granny square! I swapped backpost single with backpost double so the square was 14 inches before I caught it. Had to redo the whole thing. Really hope the rest of the year goes better...
Anyone know a place to get a relatively cheap yarn bowl? My budget is probably 80-100.
Tamara Kelly
Hi Lauren! There are so many lovely yarn bowls, but I'm a big fan of the ones from Furls - my affiliate link is tinyurl.com/mooglyfurls - and they should be within your budget (or below!)!
