Tie One On: Crochet Head Tie, Skinny Scarf, and Belt

Less than one skein, just four rounds, and so many ways to wear it! The Tie One On crochet pattern is a long, lightweight accessory that can be wrapped and tied as a head tie, worn as a skinny scarf, or styled as a belt. It’s a quick crochet project with plenty of possibilities, and the simple design lets the yarn take center stage. I made mine in Universal Yarn Asonde in the gorgeous Heatwave colorway, but this versatile crochet accessory would be stunning in any color.

Why I Went With Asonde

Universal Yarn Asonde is a luxurious 100% silk yarn with beautiful drape and excellent stitch definition, making it especially well-suited to lightweight accessories like this one. It’s also cool to the touch, which makes it a lovely choice for something you’ll be wearing around your head or neck in particular!

This is the first time I've used silk yarn, so I did a little bit of research before diving into my single skein. This yarn is spun with the short silk fibers created when silk is combed and carded. This creates a yarn that is lighter drape that other silks, with a more subtle shine. It's also machine washable!

So for my first taste of this lovely stuff, I decided on the Tie One On crochet pattern - it uses less than one skein, so you can make this little luxury project quickly and have lots of yarn left over. I used Asonde in 105 Heatwave, and the color gives this simple accessory plenty of personality.

After blocking it softened a lot, but there was enough "grip" to the yarn to keep it from trying to slip out of my hair and off my head - which makes it my new favorite head scarf, superior to everything else I've tried!

Why You Should Make Tie One On

How many crochet patterns can you make and actually use again and again? Tie One On is small enough to make in an afternoon, uses less than one skein, and gives you multiple accessories in one pattern!

Wear it as a crochet head tie, wrap it around your neck as a skinny scarf, or tie it around your waist as a belt.

Make one for yourself, then make another in a different color and a different yarn for a completely different look.

It’s a simple, wearable crochet project that proves you don’t need a lot of yarn to make a big impact!

US - H, 5.0mm crochet hook - Furls Streamline

90 - 150 yds Universal Yarn Asonde (3-Light; 100% silk; 153 yds; 50 g)
Colorway shown: 105 - Heatwave

Gauge and Custom Sizing: The stitch multiple for this pattern is 3, +1, plus the turning chain if needed. Each 3 st rep adds .875 inches to the length of the project (blocked).  The length shown is 40 inches, with the Row 1 stitch count given - this version used 90 yards of yarn. No matter how long your first row, as long as you follow the stitch multiple, the instructions will be the same. The width is 2.5 inches.

Notes:

This pattern starts with a row, and then switches to rounds.

If you would prefer to avoid using the FDC stitch, you can instead chain and work dc stitches into the chain to the length desired, making sure to end with a multiple of 3 plus 1 for the stitch count.

If you would prefer to avoid using the CSDC stitch, you can instead chain 3 and count that as the first dc of the row, or use another ch-3 substitute.

TIE ONE ON Instructions

Row 1: FDC 130; turn. (or to desired length, using a mult of 3 plus 1)

Rnd 2: CSDC in the first st, *ch 2, skip 2 sts, dc in the next st; rep from * to end of the row, ([ch 2, dc] twice, ch 2) in side of last dc,** dc in fch of same st, working across fch rep from * finishing at **; join. 

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in the first st, *2 sc in next ch-2 sp,** sc in next st; rep from * around, finishing last rep at **, join.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, [sc, ch 3, 2 dc] in first st, *skip 2 sts,** [sc, ch 3, 2 dc] in next st; rep from * around, finishing last rep at **, finish off and seamless join to first st of rnd.
