Block #17:
Marly Bird Block 2021
by Robyn Chachula and Marly Bird
Above is their square, made in 3 colors. Below is my square, in my 4 colors!
The Details
My Notes: This pattern makes some very unique moves! Be sure to read the instructions carefully. For Rounds 2-7, try to come from behind the chain-5 loop, not from the side - that will make more sense when it's time to crochet. And be sure to note that there's a chart included as well!
Helpful Links and Tutorials: Crochet Abbreviations; CSDC into a Magic Circle; Standing Single Crochet; Standing Double Crochet.
Sizing: My square was the right size as written. But everyone's gauge and tension level are different so be sure to measure as you go. Learn how to adjust for size HERE to make sure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.
What I Did: I used a Furls US-J, 6.0 mm hook, and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows:
Rnd 1: Eggshell
Rnd 2: Tangerine
Rnd 3: Eggshell
Rnd 4: Tangerine
Rnd 5: Eggshell
Rnd 6-8: Celtic
Rnd 9: Lettuce
This square required minimal blocking! I used the wet blocking method, or you could use light steam.

Hi Colleen! I was able to find it for sale on a few Indonesian sites, but none listed the yarn weight. I think the best substitute though would be Red Heart Nylon: https://www.yarnspirations.com/red-heart-nylon-crochet-thread-size-18/138.html?&utm_source=Influencer_Moogly&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=2021_8_commentreply

Hi Tamara, I have a question about the Marly Bird Crochet Motif instructions for block 17. On round 1 I don't understand where the sl st is to be placed in the dc after the ch 5. Thank you!

Hi Tawny! I believe that's referring to the 6th ch from the hook called out at the beginning of the Round.

Thank you, Tamara! I have one more question, though. Where does the sl st go in the middle of the round after the ch 5? Thank you!

Hi Tawny! You slip stitch in the top of the dc-cluster you made right before the ch-5 🙂
