Block #2:
Quilt Ladies Square
by Linda Dean Crochet
Above is the original, made with 5 colors of With Love. Below is my version, made in my 4 colors of With Love!
The Details
My Notes:Â This pattern does take a bit of concentration for the first few rounds, until you get going. There isn’t a video tutorial for this one, but there is a fantastic photo tutorial to help you through. Looking at the photos really helps!
One change I made is to carry colors through the block along the back to avoid cutting the yarn at the end of each row. It does muddy the look a little bit in one corner, but for me it was worth it to avoid the ends! To do this, I would slip stitch into the corner space, finishing the slip stitch with the next color, and working the next round from there.

Sizing: I did need to add a little bit to get up to size. So I worked Rnd 15 as written but with double crochet sts. Then I added a Rnd of half double crochet, worked evenly. Everyone’s gauge and tension level are different so be sure to measure as you go. Learn how to adjust for size HERE to make sure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.
What I Did: I used a Furls US-J, 6.0 mm hook and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows:
Rnd 1: Lettuce
Rnd 2: Eggshell
Rnd 3: Tangerine
Rnd 4: Eggshell
Rnd 5: Tangerine
Rnd 6: Eggshell
Rnd 7: Tangerine
Rnd 8: Eggshell
Rnd 9: Celtic
Rnd 10: Eggshell
Rnd 11: Celtic
Rnd 12: Eggshell
Rnd 13: Celtic
Rnd 14: Eggshell
Rnd 15: Lettuce
Extra Rnd: Lettuce
This square benefited from a moderate blocking. To block this square, I used the wet blocking method, or you could use light steam.
