    #MooglyCAL2016: Afghan Block #24!

    Published: Nov 23, 2016 · Modified: Jan 2, 2017 by Tamara Kelly · 17 Comments

It's been another amazing year, and I thank you all so much for joining me for another crochet along! It's been so fun seeing everyone's blocks every 2 weeks, and I can hardly believe we're at the end again. Luckily, I've already got 2017's CAL planned out - there will be more details on that in December! So let's get to that last square!

Get ready for the 2016 Moogly Afghan Crochet-Along! Starts January 7th!

Did you find this CAL too late to do it "live"? That's okay! Theses posts will be here for a long time to come. Here's the scoop on what's going on:

    • No need to sign up/officially join - just jump in and start crocheting! Work at your own pace.
    • The blocks will stay free online forever. See the schedule below for all the past block links.
    • I link to the designer's pattern below, share a photo of my version of their block, and give any helpful notes that are appropriate.
    • Each 12" square is designed in worsted/aran weight yarn, with a 5.5mm hook. If you choose a different yarn weight/hook size, your blocks will be a different size, but as long as you are consistent, then the blocks should be too! For example, with DK weight yarn, you should get blocks that are about 10" in size.
    • French translation PDFs are provided on each designer's site, courtesy of Véronique HoRaive! Merci Véronique!
    • There is a Ravelry group for the CAL HERE, and a Facebook group HERE - all full of help and camaraderie! Thank you to all of the amazing volunteer moderators! It's a great place to go if you need more help with a particular design!

Block #24:  Dragonfly Garden Afghan Block by Debi Dearest on Dearest Debi: CLICK HERE to go to the pattern page but first, read my notes below! Here's Debi's square:

Block #24 in the 2016 Moogly Crochet Along! All patterns free!

And here's the one I made, using all 6 of my colors:

Block #24 in the 2016 Moogly Crochet Along! All patterns free!

    Now for my notes!

    • This pattern is free to view online, at the link above. Printing or downloading however does have a cost, see the site for details.
    • This pattern is very floral and feminine, and I love the way the rounds of flowers come together - so fun!
    • The square did turn out a bit small for me, so I added 2 extra rounds - a round of dc, and a round of sc - and that got me to 12". But everyone is different so be sure to measure as you go! Learn more about adjusting for size HERE. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.
    • I used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice, and my color scheme was as follows – MC: Pearl Mist; AC1: Tangerine Mist; AC2: Denim Mist; AC3: Purple Mist; AC4: Seaspray Mist; AC5: Rose Mist; extra Round 1: Tangerine Mist; extra Round 2: Pearl Mist.
    • If this one isn't to your taste, you can find a  list of alternatives HERE!

Thanks so much for crocheting-along with me!

I have been saving all the block directions to my computer since I am not going to start right away. I find it annoying that I cannot save the last block. I know it's her right to restrict downloads, but what if something happens to her blog before I get around to doing this afghan?

I'm sorry Nina, have you tried taking a screen shot for your records?

I always copy and paste to save the CAL's. If you are going to provide a pattern for something that is free to join in and do, then the pattern should be able to be downloaded or copy and pasted into Word. J/S

I work hard to make the CAL better each year than the last, and each year provides new learning opportunities.

Thank you. I do like to print the instructions for each pattern, but for this one I followed the video instructions, and it worked out well. Thank you for the CAL. I learn so much each time.

This is ridiculous that you can't copy this pattern! I agree with Nina, if you are going to put a pattern out there, you should be able to copy it. other wise don't join in.

I REALLY LIKE THIS BLOCK, BUT I GUESS I WILL JUST SUBSTITUTE A DIFFERENT BLOCK FOR IT. I THOUGHT THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A FREE CAL. GUESS YOU NEED TO MAKE THAT CLEAR TO THE PEOPLE THAT PARTICIPATE IN CONTRIBUTING PATTERNS NEXT TIME.

Yes, things will change for next year. However, the block is still free, you can work it right off the computer screen.

I'm sorry but it is too inconvenient to try to use the pattern off of the computer screen. I don't always have one with me where I am crocheting. Thanks for the advise though.

Yes, I'm disappointed as well that I cannot save this one in a pdf file without having to pay for it. It really is a pretty square, but I don't have a laptop, so will not be sitting here trying to make it at my desk. I will choose another one to replace it. But thank you so much for putting this together each year. I do look forward to the wonderful imagination of the crochet artists that you will have in 2017!
