Albertine Crochet Square
by Pink Mambo
Above is her square, made in 4 colors. Below is my CAL square, in my 6 colors!
My Notes: Carolyn has designed another lovely square for us, and it’s a fun and interesting pattern to crochet. The stitches are pretty straightforward, so this one is great for new crocheters as well. I love that there are several options for the final round, to help you get just the right size! One caution though – Carolyn begins this square with a ch-5 ring, but offers the magic circle as an alternative. If you DO choose to use the magic circle, be sure to leave the center ring a bit more open – don’t pull it tightly closed – you need a bit of open space there to help the finished square take shape.

Sizing: My square came out the right size using the Rnd 12 in dc option. However, everyone’s gauge and tension levels are different so be sure to measure after Rnd 11 and see which option you need. Learn how to adjust for size HERE to make sure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.
What I Did: I used a Furls US-J, 6.0 mm hook, and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows:
Rnd 1: Cornsilk
Rnd 2: Tangerine
Rnd 3: Cornsilk
Rnd 4: Lettuce
Rnd 5: White
Rnd 6: Lettuce
Rnd 7: Iced Aqua
Rnd 8: Pewter
Rnd 9: Iced Aqua
Rnd 10: White
Rnd 11: Tangerine
Rnd 12: Pewter
This square required moderate blocking. I used the wet blocking method, or you could use a light steam.
