The Details
My Notes: Our first pattern of the year is perfect for the beginning - and beginner crocheters! Post stitches and twisted stitches add texture, while the color choices will make each square unique. This pattern is very well written, and there's a video tutorial too!

Sizing: My square was coming out a bit big, so I skipped Rnd 11 and worked Rnd 12 with sc sts instead of dc, and that got me right to size. But everyone's gauge and tension level are different so be sure to measure as you go. Learn how to adjust for size HERE to make sure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.
What I Did: I used a Furls US-J, 6.0 mm hook, and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows:
Rnd 1-2: Pewter
Rnd 3-4: White
Rnd 5-7: Tigerlily
Rnd 8-9: Cornsilk
Rnd 10 and 12 (skipped 11 for size): Lettuce
Rnd 13-14: Iced Aqua
Rnd 15-16: Pewter
This square required a very mild blocking. I used the wet blocking method, or you could use light steam.

Please send me reminders. Also today is Jan 20th and I didn't see block #2. Did I miss it? Or is something technical going on that it didn't post? Thanks
Laura Salgado

Tamara, If you left out row 11 on the square doesnt that mess up the count for the outside row to connect to the other squares? I understand why you dropped the 1 row cause I too am finding my square #1 too large and I even went down a hook size to start with and it's still too big. But again won't the count be off on the outside edge due to the missing row?
Tamara Kelly
The squares will not have the same stitch count, so most people use joining methods that are more flexible. 🙂
Sherrie
Okay, that certainly makes sense. Thank you 😊
