One of the things I love about this CAL is how great it is to beat the heat – a small project means a cool one! The other thing I love is getting to make patterns designed by my favorite designers – like Block #12, courtesy of ELK Studio!

by ELK Studio(link below)
Above is the original made in 3 colors! Below, you can see my version, made with my 6 colors!

This pattern starts open but quickly changes to a more solid fabric, so it’s got something for everyone! It’s extremely well written and easy to follow, and the result is quite unique. I think color choices will have a huge impact with this one!

My square was coming out just a little bit big, so I just skipped the last round – and that got me to 12″. But everyone’s gauge and tension level are different so be sure to measure as you go, and check your gauge. Learn how to adjust for size HERE to make sure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.
I used a Furls US-J, 6.0 mm hook and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows – Rnd 1: Holly Berry; Rnd 2: Tigerlily; Rnd 3: Lettuce; Rnd 4: Iced Aqua; Rnd 5: Hot Pink; Rnd 6: Holly Berry; Rnd 7: Tigerlily; Rnd 8: Lettuce; Rnd 9: Iced Aqua; Rnd 10: Hot Pink; Rnd 11: Holly Berry; Rnd 12: Tigerlily; Rnd 13: Lettuce; Rnd 14: Fruit Punch; Rnd 15 skipped for sizing.
This square benefited from a light blocking. To block this square, I used the wet blocking method and a Chetnanigans BlocksAll Ultra blocking board.

It’s June and I have just discovered your 2018 CAL (I tend to ignore Pinterest pages in my email, but no more!) The designs are beautiful and so are the ones from previous years. Now I see what I will be doing for the rest of my life! Can I get the previous patterns from your blog? I will start there anyway.

Hi Lucile! And yay, I’m so glad you took a look and like it! 😀 All the past years are still here on Moogly – if you go to the top Navigation bar or menu, and hover (desktop) or click (mobile) on “Posts”, the drop down menu has the “Yearly Afghan CAL” and allll the past blocks are there. 😀 It started in 2014, so that’s the category link, but it continues to this day (hindsight in naming things is always 20/20 haha!): https://www.mooglyblog.com/category/2014-afghan-cal/
