Taking another look at Corner to Corner
A few years ago I started playing with the usual corner to corner pattern when I designed Fortune’s Shawlette. It’s made with the usual double crochet blocks, but instead of working 3 dc into each block, you work a dc, ch1, dc. This creates a light and airy block – especially when worked with a larger hook.
For the Whispering Arrows Shawl, I mixed this lace block with solid blocks and went back down to a smaller hook. This created a slightly more solid overall fabric – with a design you can only see under certain circumstances!
And wow does it look gorgeous in Red Heart It’s A Wrap Rainbow!
Just a Whisper of an Arrow
The Whispering Arrows Shawl features simple chevron stripes with these solid blocks – adding subtle interest to the already stunning interplay of color. Of course, Red Heart It’s A Wrap Rainbow comes in several lovely colorways, and Red Heart It’s A Wrap Sprinkles works beautifully with this pattern as well. And every color will create a unique work of art!

Hi Tamara, I love the Whispering Arrows Shawl!!! I have just finished it!!! I would like to make a larger version of the Whispering Arrows Shawl, how do I do that? Thank you for all of your ideas abd creations!!!! I’m a big fan of yours!!!😃 Thanks, Cindy
Tamara Kelly
Hi Cindy! Thank you so much! If you look at the chevrons made as you crochet, you can continue in pattern – extending those stripes to the top of the shawl, and just adding more rows. 🙂
Dorothy
Really appreciate your tutorials and designs, Tamara. I’ve followed you a long time. I just bought the ad-free pattern (love it)! and also would like to add several rows. I’m not confident in trying to continue the chevrons – my yarn is dark (Malabrigo Dos Tierras) and it would be hard for me to get it right without a lot of fussing, I think. And of course, I’m in a hurry to get it done before a trip in a week. So, I wonder if I just kept going by adding a block each row… would you have a suggestion about using solids or laces or a combination of both? Or do you think it would ruin the flow of the chevrons? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Tamara Kelly
Hi Dorothy! Thank you! I think I would either:
switch to all lace blocks so that the chevrons float in the space, or
start doing solid blocks for a whole row, then lace for a whole row – change the direction of the stripes and make it a design choice!
I hope that helps! ♥
Dorothy
Thanks, Tamara! Great suggestions…
Sue
I don’s understand the lace 1, lace 2, etc. and solid 5. Can you explain?
SPECIAL STITCHES:
Lace – ch 3, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-3 sp
Solid – ch 3, 3 dc in ch-3 sp
Does this mean do the lace pattern 2 times, then 3 times?
Tamara Kelly
Ah, okay! I just realized this tutorial wasn’t properly linked, my apologies: https://www.mooglyblog.com/whispering-arrows-shawl-tutorial/
So lace 1 is one lace block, lace 2 is two lace blocks, solid 5 is five solid blocks, etc.
Sue
Thank you. I hope I’ll be able to follow the instructions. I made your Fortune’s Shawl several times. It was a wonderful pattern.
