Block #11:
Celestial Landing Afghan Square
by Make It Crochet

Above you can see the square that Kim made, featuring 3 colors. Below is my CAL square, in my 3 colors! (I'm doing a stash buster, so these colors will change throughout the year. This is my second Lettuce one as I work through the rainbow!)

Details for MooglyCAL2024 Block 11
My Notes: The Celestial Landing Afghan Square features a fascinating mix of stitches and techniques! I adore the use of Tunisian entrelac (no special hook needed). There are lots of photos to help, and Kim's extensive pattern writing experience makes it easy. This pattern will have lots of challenges for beginners, and will entertain experienced crocheters - I can't wait to see your versions of this one!
Helpful Links and Tutorials: Magic Circle, Stitching in the 3rd Loop, Join with DC (STDC), Popcorn Stitches, Tunisian Simple Stitch, Join with SC (STSC), Treble Crochet, Double Treble Crochet, Chainless Starting Double Crochet, and seamless join.
Sizing: My square got to size as written. But everyone's gauge is different so be sure to measure as you go! Learn how to adjust for size HERE to make sure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.
What I Did:
I used a Susan Bates US-J, 6.0 mm Twist and Lock hook, and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows (see pics for more info on placement):
Aqua: I used Light Gray
Cream: I used Lettuce
Medium Gray: I used White
This square required a mild blocking. I used the wet blocking method.

In addition, there are videos linked in the notes for specific stitches and techniques that may help you with the pattern. They may offer paid PDFs of the pattern, but have agreed to leave it up for free on their website or on Ravelry for as long as possible.
