Framed Carnation Square
by Hooked For Life Publishing
Above you can see the squares that she made, featuring 3 colors. Below is my CAL square, in my 3 colors!
My Notes: Mary Beth’s square is 3D without being weighty or thick – the light and loopy flower jumps right up at you! I love the combination of floral and geometric found here. As always, I know the variety of squares you all will make with this pattern will be amazing! Mary Beth’s pattern is easy to follow, and a joy to make. I made one little change myself, switching the color changes for the crab stitch rows – and I used twisted single crochet instead!
Helpful Links and Tutorials: Magic Circle, Standing Single Crochet, Standing Double Crochet, Front Loop Only and Back Loop Only, Chainless Starting Double Crochet, Crab Stitch, Twisted Single Crochet, and Seamless Finishing.
Sizing: My square came to 12″ as written. But everyone’s gauge is different so be sure to measure as you go! Learn how to adjust for size HERE to make sure all your squares are the same size. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.
What I Did: I used a Susan Bates US-J, 6.0 mm Twist and Lock hook, and Red Heart With Love, and my color scheme was as follows (see pics for more info on placement):
Rnds 1 – 7: White
Rnds 8 – 11: Light Gray
Rnds 12 – 15: Pewter
Rnds 16 and 17: White
This square required mild blocking. I used the wet blocking method, or you could use light steam.
