I've been wanting to design a crochet rug for ages, and having just moved, I finally knew just what I wanted to make! Inspired by the ocean themed children's bathroom in our new home, I'm proud to present the Little Waves Crochet Rug!
The Little Waves Crochet Rug features double thick V stitches and front post stitches to create little waves across the fabric. I used oceanic colors - blues, green, white - to create a rug to go with the raindrop shower curtain (and some other future projects!), but you can make this pattern in any colors you like. And I think it would look fantastic in any room of the house! Remember though, if you're using it on a non-carpeted floor, to use something to make it non-slip. Click HERE for some ideas on how to make your own rug non-slip.

When I click on "Print Friendly" nothing happens. I would really like to print off these free patterns. Especially this rug pattern.

It sounds like perhaps your pop-up blocker is preventing it from working?
Elaine
Are you using 3 pieces of yarn at a time?
I made a round rug but I can't make it lie flat
Tamara Kelly
Hi Elaine! No, for this pattern I use one strand at a time. If your round rug isn't laying flat, you can try a larger hook or more increases - or less if it's rippling!
Sandra
Guess who's gonna buy five different colors of yarn..... !!!
Laurie
Beautiful rug! Looks great with the shower curtain too.

I will try to crochet this beautiful rug for a new baby's room

Lynda M Otvos
Love this rug. I'm always on the lookout for a bath rug, my kitty goes thru them pretty quickly as it's her favorite spot where she can lie and see what's happening all around the house.
Tamara Kelly
Thank you Lynda! My dog is a big fan of this one too! 😀
Sandi
I love this!! I'm going to try it but make it wider and use it as a curtains in my bathroom. Thanks!
fariba
It's so beautiful pattern . Thank you very much
Tamara Kelly
Thank you Fariba! 😀
Sandy Adams
Very pretty rug. I plan to try making it but want it to be wider I have been crocheting for a year and am not certain on the number of stitches I should add to make the rug 4 inches wider.. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Tamara Kelly
Thank you Sandy! To make it wider add a multiple of 8 chains. So for 4 inches, you'd probably add either 8 or 16, depending on your yarn and gauge.

So you would need one ball of each color?
I think this rug is great for our bathroom and would like to make one 🙂
Susan Jane Caraccio
Lovely rug, just what I need for my new bathroom, might even do one for the small hallway....
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you Susan!
Fran
Love this rug!!! Have made 2 but one end is straight and the other has the scallops. Can you help me?
Tamara Kelly
An extra row of sc at the end should help! 🙂
ShEryl gustafson
row 91 in the pattern instructions makes it straight on the last row

I am wondering if this rug washes up nicely.
Tamara Kelly
I find that the cotton ease washes up beautifully! Ours has been washed a few times now, and looks like new. 🙂

When I try to print, I get something in Spanish, and no pattern! This is beautiful and I want to make it for a friend's birthday. Guess I'll have to find another way to write it all down.

Are you using the green Print Friendly button? How to print patterns on Moogly
Christina
Love this pattern. used the same pattern in a baby blanket turned out awesome. thank you Tamara!!
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you so much Christina!
Amy
Do the 91 stitches make the 22 inches wide or the 38 inches long?
Tamara Kelly
It's worked sideways, so that's the width. 🙂
Brit
Hi Tamara,
this is so super cute! I've been looking forever for a good washable bath mat. I thought I read somewhere that cotton-ease has been discontinued?? Would Lily Sugar and Cream be a good sub?
thanks for the pattern!!
P.S. working on blackberry salad stripe baby blanket right now, too cute and super fun 🙂 I love getting your emails weekly!!
Tamara Kelly
It does seem to be going away, which is a real shame! 100% kitchen cotton yarn is indeed probably the closest thing.
Thank you so much!! 😀
Brit
Hi I’m a bit confused starting in row 7 it says skip two stitches and the do the 2dc ch1 2dc in next STITCH. Is that applying to ch1 space or the wat after the ch1 space?
Tamara Kelly
Hi Brit! I believe that line of instruction had a few errors - sitting there since 2014! Thanks for pointing it out, I've edited that line.
Juls
Love it! Cannot wait to try this one for myself.
Sharon Gregg
Hello Tamara, I love this pattern and your video tutorial is very helpful. I would like to know how much yarn total that I will need to make an Afghan size 48” x 68”? I will use 3 colors. Also, can you please tell me the number of chains needed for this size?
Thank you very much.
Sharon
Tamara Kelly
Thank you so much Sharon! For that size, you'd begin with 197 chains. For the yarn, I estimate 4400 yds total. I hope you enjoy making it!
Joy Calhoon
Hi love your rug! Would this be considered easy or intermediate?
Tamara Kelly
It has post stitches, so officially intermediate - but on the easy end I think. 🙂
