All About Moogly

Well hello there! Thanks so much for stopping by, reading, commenting, and poking around on Moogly! I hope you enjoy all the patterns, video tutorials, and links. There’s lots to do here, so feel free to explore!

Holiday-photo-2012-for-webThe word “moogly” was coined by our daughter when she was a toddler. She used it to describe anything wobbly, off kilter, silly, or teeter-tottery. When I decided to start a mommy blog a few years later, the name Moogly was a natural fit! After a while I decided mommy blogging wasn’t right for me, but I kept the blog around because I had a crochet pattern I’d written on there. Fast forward to 2011, when I decided to open a crochet and knit business, and Moogly got stripped down and relaunched to support my commission work! Eventually I realized design was where my heart was, and I stopped taking commissions. And here we are!

Moogly as you see it today¬† is the work of one designer/writer/blogger, and Photo-for-Biothat’s Tamara Kelly. Or… me! My husband Geoff helps out with most of the tech stuff, including all camera work and video editing. None of this would be possible without him! Together we raise our daughter and two sons in Iowa, USA. Moogly is an important part of supporting our family financially, and it’s a lot of fun too! I enjoy interacting with all the amazing crafters I’ve met through the site, and with your support, I hope to continue to do so for a long time to come!

Below are some of the policies/disclosures/other techy stuff that I need to put somewhere. Read on if you’re interested!

I love reading your comments! But I don’t love spam, and while I don’t care if you swear up a storm anywhere else, I do ask that you keep the profanity to the mild side here, or I’ll have to edit, and we don’t want that. Also, while you need to put in an email address to comment, please do NOT put your email address in your comment itself – I don’t want spammers picking up your info and using it for their nefarious purposes. If you’ve linked to Moogly on your own site, I’d love to see a link! And please do let me know what you think about a particular post, and let me know if you’ve spotted an error in a pattern or need some clarification. I’m only human, but I’m happy to help!

I get a lot of requests to sell finished products made from Moogly patterns, and the answer is yes! As long as you don’t sell or reproduce the written pattern, you are welcome to use any of the free or paid Moogly patterns to make items to sell for charity or profit. I do ask that you include a link to the free pattern with credit for the design – on the online listing if selling online, or on the tag if selling at a craft fair or in a shop. This way everybody wins! Thanks so much!

I’m afriad I cannot allow translations to be hosted elsewhere, but there is another option! If you would like to translate a Moogly crochet pattern to another language, please create a PDF file of this translation and email it to me at I will be happy to host the PDF here on Moogly as a downloadable file on the original pattern page. You are welcome to include a link to your site with credit for the translation on the PDF, and to blog about doing it with a link to the pattern here on Moogly where they can find the file.

The Moogly logo and associated images were designed by the wonderful Designs by Miranda! She is super friendly, easy to work with, and very patient with me. I highly recommend her work!
