I'm so excited to announce the Warm Up America! & Moogly Hats, Scarves, and Mittens Drive!
Warm Up America! is an amazing nonprofit, most known for its afghan drives. But they are just as committed to providing clothing for people in need. And this September, they asked us to help them get out the word about their Hat, Scarf & Mittens Campaign - so of course we said yes! Read on to see how you can help spread the warmth this winter!

What Is Warm Up America!?
"The Warm Up America! foundation, a 501C3 nonprofit, was founded in 1991 by Evie Rosen. It is committed to motivating, training and coordinating volunteers to knit and crochet afghans and clothing for people in need. To this end, the foundation:
- Promotes, trains and encourages individual volunteers and groups to adopt the WUA! program as a local activity.
- Supports and assists these local volunteers by providing information and instructional materials through its website and newsletters.
- Acts as a collection point for sections, oversees assembly into completed blankets and ships items to various charitable organizations and agencies for distribution to the homeless and persons in need. "
The squares get a lot of press, but this month they want to focus on wearables - so needed in the coming months! So we're working on them to help get the word out. I've designed a whole new set of patterns for this drive, that are all free here on Moogly - the Woven Warmth Crochet Hat, Woven Warmth Crochet Scarf, and Woven Warmth Crochet Mittens!

Of course, you can make any hat, scarf, and mittens patterns you like - and I've got some more great free crochet and knit patterns linked for you below. But here are all the important details!
How Can You Help and Join this Campaign?
The Hat, Scarf & Mittens Campaign will run from September 3rd to October 4th - please ensure all your items are in the office by October 4th!
(But if you're late, still send them in, they always need more!)
- Make an adult or child hat and/or scarf and/or mittens (Any pattern, not just Moogly patterns! They do have an excess of baby hats at this time.)
- Scarf size 65"-70" long by 6" wide
- Use medium weight #4, acrylic yarn
- Be sure to weave in all your ends!
- Help spread the word! Share your projects on social media with the #moogly and tag Warm Up America
- Please include a donation form with "Moogly" on the campaign line! CLICK HERE to get the donation form

And We Have An Update - as of September 24!

Joanne Ledlow says
Is there an equivalent in Canada?
Thank you
Tamara Kelly says
Hi Joanne! I'm afraid I don't know of an equivalent charity specifically for Canada, but I will certainly keep my eyes open!
Carolyn says
Are they accepting hats for babies?
Tamara Kelly says
Thank you so much for asking, Carolyn! I found more info on their site:
"Warm Up America! has received more and more requests from organizations across the country that serve children in crisis, including foster care organizations, schools, homeless shelters that serve children, etc. To meet these requests, we are in need of child and adult-sized blankets year around, as well as hats and scarves in the winter. "
So I didn't see anything about babies, but child size for sure!
