Have I Just Invented a New Stitch Pattern?

So when I set out to make this set, I wanted to use Red Heart Super Saver Brushed and basic stitches, but keep it interesting... little did I know where my hook was going to lead me!

I started playing around, combining a little bit of interlocking crochet, maybe a touch of mosaic... and I came up with something I don't think I've seen before. I consulted other designers, but they couldn't pin it down as one thing either. So if you've seen this stitch pattern before, please let me know! As for now, I'm calling the specific stitch a WTr - Woven Treble.

This stitch pattern is created by working two rows of mesh in one color, and then weaving the first row of mesh in the next color through those rows. Right and left-handed video tutorials are available! I first figured it out with the scarf, and then figured out how to work it in rounds for the Woven Warmth Crochet Hat!

The fabric this stitch makes is thick without being heavy, and creates lots of pockets of air for warmth. And while it's new and different, the stitches themselves aren't difficult - though I have used post stitches for ribbing at the brim. The hardest part was picking a "wrong side" and a "right side" - I love them both!

    Crochet Abbreviations

Fptr - Front Post Treble Crochet; Fpdc - Front Post Double Crochet

    Notes:

The Ch 3 at the beginning of rnds counts as the first double crochet - if preferred, substitute with a Chainless Starting Double Crochet (ch 4 can CSDC and ch 1).

Be sure to carry yarns along the inside of the hat.

This pattern uses joined rows or turned rounds - you will work some rounds from the "inside" of the hat.

Use a st marker in first and last st or ch sp of each rnd to help you keep track.

    Special Stitch:

WTr (Woven Treble): Yo twice, insert hook in front of ch sp in row below and behind ch sp in second row below, and then insert hook in st in third row below, pull this stitch forward so that no ch sps obstruct it, yo and pull up a loop, [yo and pull through two loops] three times. Do not enclose any ch sps in this st.
