The Modern Luxe Throw is a different take on the crocheted blanket. It’s still blankety: cozy, warm, and super cuddly! But it’s also very unique – and I’m absolutely in love with the finished result.
Disclaimer: This post includes affiliate links; yarn provided by Lion Brand; hook provided by Furls.
The Modern Luxe Throw starts off as a chevron with filet squares, then that’s all straightened out and a big field of double crochet and stripes are capped with more dc rows that echo the filet squares from earlier – and the judicious use of back loop only stitches adds even more interest.
To make the Modern Luxe Throw, I used Lion Brand Thick & Quick Bonus Bundles. This is a new yarn from Lion Brand that you can find at Michaels/Michaels.com and LionBrand.com – and it took just 4 of these giant squishy balls of yarn to make this blanket! It’s got the look and size and yum of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick, but without the wool – perfect for those who prefer easy care or have allergies!
While still basically rectangular, the Modern Luxe Throw is asymmetrical, yet balanced. When I showed it off to friends and family, they said it made them think of everything from fluttering pennants and medieval flags to something from Where the Wild Things Are! Like modern art, it’s open to interpretation – and you can make it yourself with this free crochet pattern!

I really, really LOVE this, Tamara! I’m not a big blanket maker (I like quick projects) but have been doing a couple per year for the past 2 years. I think this pattern will keep me engaged but won’t take months and months to make, so I’ll stay engaged. Thank you for the free pattern!
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you so much Jane! I’m so glad to hear you like it!

Beautiful! I love how different it is, particularly that one end is chevron and the other is straight. Really stunning.
Tamara Kelly
Thank you so much! It was a risky design, but I needed to bring it to life!

How do I download this pattern?
Tamara Kelly
You can open a second tab to PrintFriendly.com and use the download option there. 🙂

I need to make this wider and longer. How do I adjust to make it approximately 60 x 72?
Tamara Kelly
Hi Judy! The stitch multiple is listed above for the width, and for the length you’d want to add about 12 rows or so – you can split them between the sections however you like! 🙂

Hi
Does this pattern have a tutorial, also I am trying to make it with double knit yarn.
Tamara Kelly
Just for the individual stitches, I’m afraid. Is there a question on a bit I could help you with?
Rikki
The allfree site says the Modern Luxe throw pattern is 34 worsted weight yarn yet the yarn itself says it is a #6 super bulky. A bit confusing.
Tamara Kelly
I’m sorry for the confusion, I don’t have control of their site listings at all. The yarn shown is a Super Bulky/”6″.
