What Makes Granny Squares So Popular?
Originally, "granny squares" refered to only those squares made with the granny stitch - you can see one example below!
But since then, the term has expanded to encompass any square or motif that is meant to be joined to other squares or motifs to create a larger project! So now there are "granny squares" featuring all sorts of stitches and patterns! Most are still center out, but there are lots made in rows or even diagonally too. That said, there are few things they all tend to have in common - things that keep crocheters coming back for more.
