Can a Crochet Square Have Meaning?
Many of my designs are simply a combo of stitches and colors that I thought looked good for a particular item – and naming the pattern is the hardest part! But this one was a little different.
The Screen Window Square design and name were inspired by some excellent advice I received a year or so ago – advice that has gotten me through some tough times.
As the mother of teens… life outside the crochet hook can involve a lot of drama. And as parents, it’s our job to be the “screen door.” Let the hot air blow through, knowing it’s not about you as a parent, but about them expressing and dealing with the challenges of almost-adulthood – aka, don’t take it personally. But the screen is there, paying attention, to catch the big stuff.
This advice has helped me so much – and this square helps me remember to be that screen. Open up and them let them follow their path, but be there when most needed.

I needed this more than I realized! As a mother of teens and young children, it’s hard for me to remember that both age groups (and myself) have huge emotions that need worked through. Being a “screen door” will help me. Thank you for this!
