Classic, easy, cozy, and fun – that’s how I described the Ethan Baby Blanket, and I think those words apply just as well to the new matching Ethan Baby Beanie!

The Ethan Baby Beanie can be made with leftovers from the Blanket for the perfect gift set. It’s also a great stashbuster! Made from the brim up, you can try it on as you go if needed for a perfect fit. With 3 sizes to choose from, it stands alone just as well for a super quick gift or charity donation this season.

Your website is a blessing to me! I am a 4 yo in crochet and constantly learning new things. So, I have a question about beanies. Whenever I follow a pattern (haven’t done one of yours although I like that Ethan beanie) it comes out too small, although my gauge is spot on. Charts tell me circumference sizes. I assume that is double the width of the bottom of the hat? Also length, which I assume is the length from center top to bottom of hat? All my hats turns out to short and not wide enough unless I add more stitches/row.s I don’t mind doing that, but would like to be a bit more scientific about it. I hope to do a batch of beanies for ladies and babies before my missionary friends return to Africa in February. Even tho the mommas in the Masai (Kenya) live in a warm climate, they enjoy coverings for when they have their winter (about 50 degrees). They also swaddle their babies, which are typically born very small. So, i thought as a gift of love to my sisters over there, I could do up a bunch for them and send via the missionaries. Could you help me with this dilemma? Hope this makes sense and is not wtfi!

Hello Beth, and thank you so very much! You’ve got the measurement locations and thoughts correct. I’m wondering if you might like these: https://www.mooglyblog.com/babay-fay-bts-giveaway/ (the giveaway is over, but there are links to the products).
If the hats aren’t coming out the size called for in the pattern, then it’s either gauge or blocking. You say your gauge is correct, so I’m wondering if you can block them to the given size?
Beth
Hi, tamara, please for give my delay in responding to you when you were so quick to answer. I could probably block them -hadn’t thought of that. I guess I was thinking beanies don’t need that. But will give that a try as well as the link you gave. Thanks so much!
