Of course I'm not nearly there yet, but I'm a bit confused about that last row 17. Should it stay those 76 SC go across row 16, not the foundation chain? The foundation chain would be below row 1, wouldn't it? Excited to get started!

I believe it will be a little while before it reaches the UK. A yarn of the same weight should work in the meantime. 🙂

There should be a little bit left over, but not much - I made sure not to get tooooo close to the end, just to account for variability between skeins. 🙂

Let me get this straight--you cut the yarn, go back to the beginning and SC up the short edge then all around this puppy! Right! Managed to get a hold of 3 skeins of this yarn 2 weeks ago on sale at Joann with free shipping---one just happens to be the coral. The colors flow so nice but... don't think I'd call this a #4 weight. It's a very light boucle. Not sure if I care for it yet but I'm not really a thinner yarn worker--and under duress do I use fingerings weight. Anxious to see how this works out. Thanks for the pattern.

      Hi,

This is great. I haven't been crocheting much and this is a good way to get back into it. My local big craft store didn't have shawl in a ball, but I have some Woolspun. I know it's heavier but I will be giving it to my Ma and she is always cold. I do have my Odyssey hook which is Awesome!!! Thanks for starting the CAL.

Just wondered - I'm using a different Worsted Yarn for this project. At the end of stage 1, should we be more or less half way through our yarn? Just trying to estimate how much more yarn I will need. Thanks.

      Hi,

I'm having a hard time picturing what is going on with Row 17. Is that creating a border? (I'm relatively new to crocheting and have mostly just made washcloths.) Also, is part one of the pattern working from the top down? Thanks!

My best guess is that you didn't skip the first st at the beginning of each row, and/or crocheted into the ch-2.

You only cut the yarn after Row 16 and then at the very end of the pattern. If you cut in other places, like to avoid a knot, you'll just have to rejoin there. 🙂

I was happily on-line awaiting Part 2 of the Amelia Shawl. It finally arrived and now that I have attempted Row 18 4 times without success...........................I have questions. It is probably my interpretation of the pattern as I have trouble with that at times but:

      1. The yarn is not broken, we are cointinuing from row 17 with the same yarn. Row 18 the foundation row, correct?

      2. We are crocheting in the actual stitches (1 chain) on the foundation row and not in the spaces, right?

      3. Is there any way that you can post a close up of Row 17, 18, 19 area of the shawl? : )

At some point, my math will add up and I will get my cutie Amelia Shawl and make a few more. Thank you for the pattern.

I'll do my best to help!
        1. Correct, don't break the yarn after Row 17. At the end of Row 17, you turn and work back across for Row 18 - not across the top of the shawl, where the foundation ch is, but along the previous row.
        2. In Row 18, you are crocheting into actual stitches. You don't crochet into the ch 1 at the beginning of Row 17.
        3. You can see a closeup in the first picture here: https://www.mooglyblog.com/spring-mini-crochet-along-amelia-shawl/

Having trouble with the end of Row 18. It looks like I'm going to be one stitch short. I added up all the stitches, used and skipped, in Row 18 and it adds up to 141, but in Row 17 we only have 140 stitches. Would a possible solution be to skip only 1 stitch for the second-to-last v stitch? That way when you skip a stitch for the last v stitch, there'll actually be a stitch left for you to work in.

I was having this problem too! I went over it and over it and also came up with the need for 141 sts for it to come out right, which I of course didn't have. I'm happy to hear it wasn't just me 😉

Hi Tamara, I am having such a hard time with row 18..ripped out row 18 twice, I keep getting 56 V-stitches instead of 49 V-St. Could you possibly do a crochet chart for this pattern? I did look at the close up picture but it didn't help with the count. Any help with your pattern will be appreciated?

      Beautiful! It is just stunning!

I have gotten through row 22 and I think there is a slight error. In row 20, the first set of instructions in the ** states "once" after it. Shouldn't that be "twice" - up the side, first, then across the long edge, second. Or does it mean to repeat once and I misunderstood?

Love your patterns! I have made several in the past, and I have plans for several more in the future! (Including the ones yet to come...)

That line can be confusing - you have the effect right though - you do it once, and then repeat it once (so twice total). 🙂

Hi Audrey! The 2 sc in each ch-1 sp is worked across Row 29. The 3rd ch is the #3 ch of the ch 4 that began Row 29. Then, looking at the blocking photo, you sc evenly all the way across that top line (it's not straight, it's curved up a bit on each end). This should bring you back to where you began the edging. You then work 2 sc in the last st of Row 29 - the dc worked into the sc of Row 28. Does that help?

I had been really keen to crochet up anything since getting my hands on some Shawl in a Ball, and found your Amelia Shawl...
I love it! It came out gorgeous, thank you for the pattern!

Is there a diagram for this pattern? I'm on row 19, count has been fine so far, but I'm off my two v-st now.

No, I'm afraid I don't have a diagram for this pattern. Be sure you are increasing where indicated, and that you count the first V st made with the ch4 and dc in your count!

On row 19, after the first 11 v-st and pm step, instructions say v-st in next ch1 sp. The next step: v St between the next two v-st: question- is one of those two stitches supposed to be the v in whose ch-so I just stitched? Or should I skip to the the next two unused vs? Does that make sense? I think this is where I'm getting off count.

      I need help with

"Row 18: Ch 4 (counts as dc and ch 1), dc in the 1st st (first v st made), skip the next st, (v st in the next st, skip the next 2 sts) 10 times, v st in next st, skip the next st, (v st in the next st, skip the next 2 sts) 11 times, v st in next st, skip the next st, (v st in the next st, skip the next 2 sts) 12 times, v st in the next st, skip the next st, v st in next st, (skip the next 2 sts, v st in the next st) 10 times, skip the next st, v st in the last st; turn. (49 v sts)"

I keep getting 51 V stitches not 49. Is it possible to write a diagram out to show what it looks like on the sides of the shawl and across the row?

On the right side (where we start the V Stitches) I have 10 V stitches, then the V stitch, V stitch with no space in between (for the corner). I have this on the left side too. So 12 V-Stitches each side x 2 sides = 24 V stitches.... unless I am counting that wrong?

Any help would be appreciated it! Thank you.

        Hi Gwyn!
Unfortunately, to chart Row 18, I'd have to chart the entire pattern, and the resulting chart would be too large to load on the page (too small to see) - and take weeks to make. It sounds like maybe you missed some of the single skipped stitches? There should always be at least one skipped stitch after a V st.

Row 18: Ch 4 (counts as dc and ch 1), dc in the 1st st (first v st made), skip the next st, (v st in the next st, skip the next 2 sts) 10 times, v st in next st, skip the next st, (v st in the next st, skip the next 2 sts) 11 times, v st in next st, skip the next st, (v st in the next st, skip the next 2 sts) 12 times, v st in the next st, skip the next st, v st in next st, (skip the next 2 sts, v st in the next st) 10 times, skip the next st, v st in the last st; turn. (49 v sts)

I did not mean to chart the whole pattern what I meant was draw a trapezoid in paint and tell us how many V stitches should be on each of the 3 sides. We know that two sides are equal and should have the same number of V stitches (which I do) I just think I might have messed up the middle from reading your pattern.

There should be 11 on each side, one on each corner, and 25 across the bottom.

Hello ! I just finished row 19, and I believe I am off somewhere. I will finish with the correct number of V stitches, but I don't see to have the correct number of stitches on each side. I came up with the correct number of sc from row 17. 32 on each side and 76 across the top of row 16. I finished row 18 with the correct number of V stitches as well (49). In one of the previous responses, it was indicated that there should be 11 V stitches on each side and 25 across the bottom and one in each corner. Which stitch is considered the "corner"? meaning, in relation to the one skipped stitch. The reason I ask is because on row 19, on the last part, the pattern say "v stitch between the next 2 sts 11 times" but I do not enough v stitches for this but I end up with 54 v stitches. An the ones with the markers are not "even". One is on top and one is below the corner. Any suggestions?

Hi Theresa! It does sound like something went wrong, though without being able to see it, it's hard to say exactly where. The marked V sts should visually line up with the bottom two corners of the trapezoid.

Can't thank you enough for all you have taught me. Such a great teacher. I like a larger shawl, can I use an extra skein and just do more repeat rows. I'm having trouble picturing how that would work. Thank you.

Thank you, and I'm so sorry I missed this comment before now! Yes, you'd need more yarn, and add more Row 3 – 15 repeats. 🙂

This looks dazzling and the yarn is beautful, however I can't discover it in the uk yet! I'd love to have the capacity to get a few and make this shawl

Any 10-12 ply yarn should work - hopefully they'll get this one across the pond eventually!

      Hello,
I’ve started working on this shawl a very long time ago, around 2 years, but I’ve just gotten back to working on it and I’ve reached row 19 where it says to v st in ch-1 and between the 2 v st. And I’m confused there because in the photo of your shawl, it looks like there’s a v st in between every 2 v st and not as indicated in row 19. Even though I got the correct number of v st at the end of the row, it just doesn’t look the same as the photo provided there.
