I'm so glad so many of you have enjoyed this crochet-a-long - and have given me lots to ponder about what to do in 2015! I'll definitely do another CAL of some sort - it's just a matter of deciding what to do! If you haven't yet, be sure to share your thoughts and ideas in the comments. Now on to Block #17! And if this is the first you've heard of the 2014 Moogly Afghan Crochet-a-Long, then start HERE to read how it works!
Need to catch up? Here is the CAL schedule, with links to the previous blocks (click on the date to go to that blog post):
September 4th and 18th
October 2nd, 16th, and 30th
November 13th and 25th
BLOCK #17: Hugging the Stars

Above is the original, made with 1 color. I love the way this square ties in with the February square! Check the Ravelry page linked above, for more pics. And here's the one I made, also using my 4 colors (unblocked):
Now for my notes!
- Be sure to read the designer's Special Stitches descriptions - particularly the Back Cross Stitch.
- The pattern itself is well written, though I believe the very last round could be written as follows: Beg *Corner, dc in 8 sts, (fpdc, ch 1) 2x, fpdc in next st, dc in 9 sts, (fpdc, ch 1) 2x, fpdc in next st, dc in 8 sts; repeat from * 3x. That's what I got - let me know what you got!
- After Round 11, I was at 11" so I added a round of hdc to bring it up to size - be sure to take your own measurements!
- My color pattern was as follows: Round 1-2: White; Round 3-5 Red; Round 6 - 8 Blue; Round 9 - 11 Green; (extra) Round 12 White.

I'm deep in another project (one with a deadline) and fell behind on the afghan. Once I catch up again, I'm eager to try this block. Different, yet I think the center/flower makes it mesh nicely with most of the others.
I definitely would be interested in another crochet-along. What I like best about your afghan project is that we all are united in a schedule and pattern suggestions, but we individually have loads of choices and ways to customize in between. It's "together" but it's not lockstep.
For 2015...I know I'll like whatever you decide, but maybe a series of separate projects rather than one very large one? I'm definitely keeping my multi-block afghan for myself, but I think maybe I'd like to crochet-along some smaller things that would make good gifts. Or maybe a collection that can be kept or given together as a set, or kept/given separately. Seasonal groups, maybe? Like, a winter series could be a hat, a scarf, and a pair of mittens; summer could be a brimmed hat, a tote bag, and a swimsuit cover-up....

Thank you Annie! I think that's a great suggestion! I really like the idea of a gift-a-long! Hm, so many choices!!
Janet
I'm with Annie also small crochet items for gifts or things we may keep. Thanks for all the work.
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you Janet!

I loved this pattern. for row 11 I followed your suggestion and I like the extra "windows it put in the square. I finished with a sc to make it 12 inches for me. Thanks a lot..

Help needed round 6 on this one- what does +Dc mean? am playing catchup, and this is baffling me, can't find instructions for it anywhere. Is it really as simple as I suspect...........?!!
Sarah
Do'h just twigged- what a wally I am. Should have read further on- it's the repeat indicator used instead of the usual * !!!
Tamara Kelly
😀 No worries! Every pattern writer does it a little differently - trips me up sometimes too!

I would love to start joining some of my squares up, will you be posting which join we should use or do we just join them as we wish? Thank you ... I have loved each one and have made one or two of the other free 12" squares.
Tamara Kelly
It's definitely do as you wish, but I'll have some suggestions coming up! 🙂
Debbie
