I love playing with new yarns! One of the yarns I got to play with recently was Adriafil's Cortina, which came all the way from Italy (you may have spotted it in the recent Hit Hat Giveaway). Well of course me playing with yarn means a new free pattern for all of you - introducing Scarfati!
But before I share that pattern, I have to mention the Dolcezza Baby they also sent - so lovely! It's 100% Merino fingering weight, so fine and soft. I held the two colors together to make a Loopy Love Hat - super cute! You can see all the Adriafil yarns on Tricotin, and they are distributed in the US by Plymouth Yarn Company.
Now on to the Cortina! Scarfati is easy, fun and fast! Each skein of Cortina makes 1 Scarfati - love the one skein projects! You can wear them alone or together, mix and match, wear them long or cowled - it's up to you!
The Adriafil Cortina was a great yarn to use for this pattern - it's a bulky weight, but 60% animal fiber (50% Wool, 40% Acrylic, 10% Alpaca), so it breathes and drapes. The twists of color add a lot of interest for such a simple project! And I was delighted to discover that it's a Z twist yarn - which means that (unlike S twist yarn) it won't untwist while you crochet with it!

THANK YOU! I have been looking and looking for a pattern to go with a ball of yarn that a very well meaning, but not-yarn-savvy friend gave me last Christmas. A single ball, under 100yds, of a boucle-y variegated bulky yarn. I think this will be perfect for it!
Tamara Kelly
😀 It does sound like it! Thanks Jessica, I'm so glad you like it!
T'onna @ USS Crafty

Hi, I just completed the scarfati. I am still learning a lot about crocheting and I just finished the scarfati in about 2 hours or so. Thanks for the free patterns.

This is a nice easy and very quick to do pattern. I think it will be warm when used with two or three together and looped. I am thinking of making a few for birthday presents now.
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thanks Carol, I'm glad you like them!

Can you start with the chain method or is fsc the only way to start?
Tamara Kelly
You can if you like! It's just harder to keep it from twisting. 🙂

Hello I am trying to make this scarf my daughter loves it But for some odd reason it wants to ruffle up on me is it suppose to do that or is it just me?
Thanks
Linda
Tamara Kelly
I can't say I got any ruffling. I'd make sure you're skipping enough stitches, that's all I can think of.
Rebecca
mine did the same thing I have made two and the both look ruffled on the one side with the chains

I just watched the video again and I figured out what I was doing. I am doing three dc in the same stitch. Not the same. hahahah so now let me try it again and see how it turns out.

I am unable to find this gorgeous yarn. Do you have any recommendations of other yarn I could use to achieve the same look? Preferably something I could easily get my hands on as well.....maybe that joann or hobby lobby would carry.
Tamara Kelly
Any bulky weight yarn (Symbol "5") should work! 🙂

Will this pattern work with cotton yarns? If so, what weight would I use? Unfortunately, wool makes me itch. I have to be a creative crocheter.
Tamara Kelly
Yes! You can use any fiber you like. The same weight or worsted held doubled would work. 🙂
Marla
You said Adriafil Cortina; is bulky. .....I tried loops and threads Charisma as it is bulky..It does not turn out the same
Adriafil Cortina It is about 2 yards per gram
Charisma is about 1 yard per gram.
I think the Cortina is actually more heavy worsted than bulky. I will try something with an equivalent yard to gram ratio. Good learning for me.
Lesson learned for me
Tamara Kelly
Each weight has a range, and within that there are certainly differences. Indeed, any time you switch yarn, there will be a difference!

Love this pattern! Made one a few years back then lost it when my mom moved, but am now making a much more colorful one so no real loss! Thanks Tamara!
