If it seems short laid flat, take a look at the pics on the mannequin and on me - hanging length is affected by gravity, and that's taken into account in this pattern. But if you put it on and wish it was longer, you can easily add more rows!

    Special Stitch:

STTR - Standing Treble Crochet: (Click here to see a STDC video tutorial - this stitch is the same, but with one more yarn over.) Secure the yarn end in the palm of your hook hand. Yo on hook 3 times, insert hook into indicated st, yo and pull up a loop, [yo and pull through 2 loops] 3 times.

    Notes:

This pattern begins with a row of FDC. This means there is no starting chain. If you prefer to avoid using the FDC stitch, chain the number of stitches for your size, plus 2. Dc in the 3rd ch from the hook and each rem ch across, so you end up with the correct number of stitches for Row 1.

Change colors every 4 rows, EXCEPT when indicated at the Neck Opening.

If you prefer to avoid using the STTR stitch, you can join to the first st of the row with a slip stitch and ch 4, or use another tr stitch substitute.

If you prefer to avoid using the CSTR stitch, instead ch 4 or use another tr stitch substitute.

Finally, if you prefer to avoid using the STSC stitch, instead join to the first st of the row with a sl st and ch 1, then sc in the first st.

Every time you break the yarn, be sure to leave a 6-10" tail. These will be used later for seaming.

    The 4-Row Repeat Stitch Pattern

Assembly and Finishing the Bayside Tee

    Prep (optional):

Block the piece while it can still be laid flat.

    1st Step - Seaming:

Mattress stitch seam the sides of the sweater and the bottoms of the sleeves, using the cut tail ends. Be sure to match up the stripes, and only sew the seams in that color of yarn.

    2nd Step - Edge Neckline:

Rnd 1: With yarn color of your choice (Color B shown), STSC in any st and then sc evenly around neck opening; join. (For a more open, off-the-shoulder neckline, finish off after this rnd and skip Rnd 2.)

Rnd 2: Sl st in each st around; break yarn and seamless join.

    3rd Step - Edge Sleeves:

Rnd 1: With yarn color of your choice (Color B shown), STSC in any st and then sc evenly around the sleeve opening; join.

Rnd 2: Sl st in each st around; break yarn and seamless join. Repeat for the other sleeve.

    4th Step - Edge Hem:

With Color A, STSC in any st and then sc evenly around hem opening; join and break yarn. Weave in all ends.

Hi, I'm loving this pattern - thanks so much for sharing, and especially for the video tutorial which has helped with the tricky bits 🙂

I am a bit confused as to why the extra row at the back side of the sleeves, as I thought Row 18 (sc) matched the other side. The "Next Row" in below. I'm sure there is a good reason, I'm new to crocheting tops and keen to learn!

Rows 3 - 18(18, 18, 18, 22, 22): Rep the 4-Row Repeat Stitch Pattern to the number of rows shown for your size.

Next Row: With next color, STSC in first st, sc in each rem st across; do NOT turn. Break yarn.

Hi Bee Bee, and thank you!
Ok, so if you look at the Front Sleeves there it goes to Row 19(19, 19, 19, 23, 23).
When you do the Back Sleeves, it goes to Row 18(18, 18, 18, 22, 22) PLUS the next row - so it adds up to the same number of rows. But when we started this section, Row 1 was a Tr Row, so the "Rep" couldn't start until Row 3. Does that make sense?

Yes, and as I continued stitching even more so. I can't wait to post the finished product on Ravelry, this is the first time I have actually enjoyed making a top and even planning my next colour, thanks so much for your reply and an awesome design!
