    Twilight Haze Scarf

    Published: Jul 3, 2025 · Modified: Aug 21, 2025 by Tamara Kelly · 2 Comments

    Twilight Haze Scarf

The Twilight Haze Scarf is a beautiful and wildly lightweight one-skein scarf pattern by Moogly! Made with Juniper Moon Farm Iris, the shell stitch turns this self-striping yarn into a stunning wrap that’s beginner-friendly. Crochet your own stunning superscarf with the crochet pattern below!

Made in Juniper Moon Farm Iris

I got one skein of this yarn in a goodie bag at Stitch Up Chicago, and as soon as I saw it, I knew exactly the stitch pattern I wanted to use with it. This yarn is super unique - here's the official website description:

"Iris is something out of a fairytale. A luxurious blend of suri alpaca, mulberry silk, & superfine wool raised ethically in Argentina and designed in Tuscany. The soft hues & bushy texture set the tone for a different kind of garment. Reminiscent of cotton candy with its creamy self-striping colorways. See the Beauty, With Iris."

This combination of fibers created a yarn that is hazy, textured, fuzzy - and some of the lightest yarn I've ever used. Just 100 grams holds 437 yards, up to twice what you see in your average worsted weight yarn. So for this pattern I used very nearly the whole skein - it's long, it's wide, and it's unbelievably light and airy!

    Tips for Using Textured Yarn

This pattern can, of course, be made in any yarn you like! You can sub in another medium-weight yarn, or swap it out for a DK or bulky - it's a scarf, so gauge and size don't matter, as long as it scarfs. Plus you can always add more rows to make it bigger, or stop early to make it shorter!

But if you do want to use the recommended yarn (and I do recommend it, gorgeous stuff!), there are a few tips to make it a bit easier! See, the trouble with textured yarns like this is that they like to stick to themselves. The "haze" sort of gloms onto the other strands. This can make frogging, or pulling out your stitches, a real challenge. So here are some of my top tips for working with textured yarns like this one:

    • Use a large hook - in this pattern I used an 8mm hook with a medium weight yarn. This creates more space within and between stitches, making it easier to see where you are. It also reduces friction on the yarn and keeps it light and airy.
    • Rely on your sense of touch - don't just look for the spaces and stitches, feel for them as you work!
    • Use a bright light - it's always helpful to be able to see what you're doing.
    • Count often and use stitch markers - if you avoid making mistakes and catch the ones you do make right away, you'll have a lot less frogging to do!
    • Use simple stitch patterns and let the yarn shine - like the shell stitch pattern in the Twilight Haze Scarf!
