    Soft Sunshine Chair Pad

    Published: Aug 14, 2020 · Modified: Apr 25, 2023 by Tamara Kelly · Leave a Comment

The Soft Sunshine Chair Pad features a fun tapestry crochet pattern worked in the round to create a sunny motif! The thick stitches create a soft seat cushion ready for use in any room of the home - inside or out!

    Featuring Bernat Maker Home Dec

The Soft Sunshine Chair Pad is made with Bernat Maker Home Dec! It's a fantastic and very unusual yarn. You could describe it as a stuffed knit tube! It is squishy and soft and machine wash and dry - and perfect for this project, in a variety of colors to match your decor!

    Triple that Yarn!

The trick to getting this crochet chair cushion extra squishy and quick is to triple the yarn - hold 3 strands together as you crochet! But you don't have to buy three balls of each color, or cut up one ball to triple the yarn.

Instead, you can make a large slip knot, and then pull a large loop of yarn through that knot, then another loop through that knot, then another, and another.

How to Triple Yarn - Moogly

At any point in this new "strand," you can see the yarn is now tripled - all from just one end of the yarn ball! This is a fantastic technique - no need to buy extra yarn and no getting your balls tangled. I'll be demo-ing how to do this live on YouTube on August 26th, and will link it here when it's done. There will also be right and left-handed video tutorials for this pattern that include it!

All that was the how, but why make a seat pad? There are a few reasons I can think of right away! The most obvious is to soften the chair surface - whether it is a wooden rocker, a stiff dining room chair, or a canvas wheelchair, a little extra padding can go a long way.

It's also great to take a seat cushion to stadiums and public events - we've all been stuck in those too long for comfort. And since this is just one layer, you can fold it up into your tote bag, or tuck it in the glove box so it's always ready!

For me personally, it was inspired by summer! I think most of us have experienced that ouchy feeling when it's time to get up and our legs have stuck to the seat. With the Soft Sunshine Chair Pad, I know I can sit anywhere, and get up without feeling like I'm leaving a layer of my thighs behind!
