Why You Should Make the September Skies Crochet Cardigan
The September Skies Crochet Cardigan is the perfect lightweight layer for those in-between days when summer isn’t quite over, but you’re ready for a little taste of fall. Or winter into spring!

With short sleeves and an open stitch pattern across the shoulders, it gives you just enough coverage without feeling heavy or too warm. It’s the kind of cardigan you can throw on over a tank top, tee, or dress whenever you need an extra layer.

And if you’re new to crochet garments, this is a great place to start! The construction and stitchwork are simple and approachable, making this an easy, beginner-friendly project you'll love to wear and show off.

The openwork at the top is breathable and airy - and also creates "faux sleeves," without any shaping! The colorblocking adds interest, movement, and a long flattering line. It’s a satisfying project that comes together faster than you'd think!

Best of all, you’ll reach for this cardigan well beyond September. The lightweight design makes it useful year-round- whether you’re heading out on a cool evening, layering up for a chilly morning, battling the office AC, or just want a little extra color and coverage in your outfit. Pick your favorite colors and make a September Skies Crochet Cardigan that feels completely your own!

NOTES:
If you would prefer not to use the FSC stitch, you can instead chain 1 additional stitch, skip the ch closest to the hook, and sc in each rem ch across.
And if you would prefer not to use the CSDC stitch, you can instead ch 3 or use your preferred dc substitute.
When working Row 1 around the Waistband/Collar, I recommend working 2 sl sts in the side of each dc row, and 1 sl st in the side of sc rows.
To make this sweater longer, add an equal number of stitches to the beginning and end of each row. There is no stitch multiple here to worry about, just be sure to move the beginning of the mesh section by the same number of stitches.

Sew Center BACK Seam
Lay out the pieces, matching the center Color B sections so that the openwork matches on each side. Using a cut length of Color B yarn, sew 19(19, 19, 20, 20, 20, 21, 21, 21) inches from the waist using the mattress stitch or whip stitch. Try on and adjust as needed; weave in ends.

Sew Side Seams
Fold the garment in half across the mesh sections, so that the ends of each row meet. Seam each side 11(11, 11, 12, 12, 12, 13, 13, 13)" from the waist using the mattress stitch or whip stitch. Try on and adjust as needed; weave in ends.
